DEPARTMENT: MPS Fashion Photography

REPORTS TO: Department Chair

SCHEDULE: Full Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

SALARY: $60,000 per year

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Department Chair of MPS Fashion Photography, the Director of Operations will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the department's facilities and operations. In addition, the Director of Operations will assist the Department Chair with special projects, curriculum changes, and assisting in student/staff relations and development.

The MPS Fashion Photography Graduate Program was founded in 2011 to give precedence to the concepts that underpin photographic practice within the space of fashion. A one-year intensive graduate course, taught by faculty and guest speakers that make up some of the most innovative and influential people in the industry - its aims are rooted in extending the visual language of the students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the department's operating and administrative budgets, including finances, procurement, and purchase orders. Collaborate with external vendors as needed.
  • Administer the department's admissions process, coordinating student recruitment, application processing, and retention activities.
  • Serve as the primary contact for prospective students.
  • Serve as the department's Academic Advisor, supporting students by tracking their progress, coordinating with the Registrar for course registration, and resolving issues with Student Accounts.
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair to develop and implement new curriculum and workshops.
  • Lead marketing initiatives by organizing promotional events, branding opportunities, and managing advertising efforts across print, digital media, and online channels.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with visiting artists and external organizations (e.g., fashion brands) to enhance marketing and career development opportunities.
  • Manage the department's calendar and events, including faculty activities, the annual graduate exhibition, commencement, and other departmental events.
  • Manage and update the department's websites (both external and SVA) and oversee content creation on social media platforms.
  • Handle all departmental personnel activities and paperwork.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Yes - co-supervise part-time Studio Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience, preferably in photography and the fashion industries
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • None.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in photography and relevant studio equipment
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in operating personal computers and related technology.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and providing high attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, prioritize, and manage job tasks effectively.
  • Ability to research, problem-solve, collaborate, and adapt skills.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional and departmental project teams
  • Ability to write routine documentation, reports, and other correspondence.
  • Ability to maintain good team-oriented relationships
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, faculty, students, and external stakeholders.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to lift a minimum of up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an office environment, perform manual tasks, and use related office equipment.
  • Schedule - Monday-Friday; 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, onsite.
  • Willingness to work outside designated office hours as needed for events or departmental needs.
  • Shift may change according to departmental needs.
