The Position

This is highly responsible administrative work that requires a professional demeanor and attention to detail in processing a large volume of paperwork and forms incidental to hearings involving family law issues. This position requires a great deal of interaction with court staff, the public, and agencies at the county and state level. This position requires the ability to multi-task, effective communication skills, and attention to detail.

Essential Functions
  • Assist the public in person and over the telephone by answering questions and explaining fundamental court procedures and processes. Maintains telephonic and email communication for the office.
  • Manage multiple court calendars for hearings and trials. Schedule virtual hearings and communicate with incoming litigants.
  • Prepare court filings as directed. Process and deliver legal documents to the Clerk of the District Court.
  • Enters, modifies, and retrieves a variety of information using the Court's and/or other various computer systems.
  • Respond to questions and inquiries in a courteous, effective manner and within a level of expertise. Refer inquiries outside of expertise to the appropriate departmental contact.
  • Manage mail and other incoming court documents. Maintain appropriate level of office supplies for Referees and courtrooms.
  • Coordinate with a variety of court personnel, including but not limited to: bailiffs, court staff, deputy sheriffs, correctional facility personnel, judges, and members of the general public.
  • Assist with courtroom technology as needed/requested.
  • Provide notary services as needed.
  • Effective time management and exceptional organizational skills are necessary along with the ability to adapt to a variety of circumstances involving interaction with attorneys, staff and members of the general public.
  • Assure confidentiality of information in accordance with departmental policies/procedures.
  • Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements
  • Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of professional office experience in business, court, or legal work. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience/training in operating a personal computer, office equipment, and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications (e.g. Word, Excel) required.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment criminal record check and drug screening test required.
  • Applicant must be a notary or willing to become a notary within three months.

  • Work is generally performed indoors in an office setting and requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, and climbing stairs. An incumbent must have the ability to transport themselves to and from various County locations.
  • An incumbent must have the ability to frequently lift and/or carry equipment, supplies and other materials weighing up to 25 lbs., and to occasionally lift and/or carry equipment, supplies and other materials weighing up to 25 lbs. An incumbent must also possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to use hands and arms to reach, finger, handle, grasp and feel; and operate the following: computers, and any other equipment that is used to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Work hours may occasionally be required before or after daylight hours. Noise level is usually moderate. Vision abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges.
  • Work requires interaction with the general public, and may be stressful when dealing with frustrated litigants and/or time constraints.
