Compensation Range: $60,000/yr - $65,000/yr commensurate with experience

Overview:

The Housing Works Inc. Reentry Services Program is a collaboration between Housing Works Inc. and The Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) to provide comprehensive, holistic reentry services to individuals with criminal justice involvement reintegrating into the five borough communities. Reporting to the Workforce Development Manager the Internship Supervisor will be responsible for, but not limited to, coordinating client internships, conduct internship site visits, provide vocational counseling to clients assigned to caseload, managing human resource functions of the internships, manage and maintain contact with external internship supervisors and agencies and communicate with internal Housing Works department staff. The Reentry Internship Supervisor will be solution-focused, detail oriented, ability to multi-task and prioritize competing tasks, and have experience working with the justice-involved population.

Responsibilities:

Primary:

  • Coordinate internship placements within Housing Works and external employment partners.
  • Maintain weekly communication with site managers and onsite supervisors.
  • Conduct facility or internship site visits.
  • Manage human resource components of the internship process.
  • Manage and screen referrals for internship applications.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly reporting in a timely manner
  • Assess and determine readiness for employment by identifying risk factors and treatment needs; refer clients to assigned case manager to coordinate referral resources.
  • Meet with active interns on a monthly or bi monthly basis for individual or group supportive counseling; focusing on crisis intervention, skills building, pre-vocational services and emotional support.
  • Assist clients to navigate the challenges that come with having a criminal background: possible homelessness, employment discrimination, domestic abuse, addiction and recovery, mental health, family issues, parole/probation issues, and legal difficulties.
  • Facilitate workshops in the job training program.
  • Conduct internship orientations with clients prior to start of the internship.
  • Utilize database to complete progress notes and imperative client information and data.
  • Attend and participate in case conference meetings.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

  • Provides supportive supervision to assigned supervisees.
  • Works collaboratively with other team members within the Justice Initiatives Department and cross-agency.
Other functions that may be required with this position include:
  • Attend and participate staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Ability and knowledge to utilize cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, motivational interviewing and other therapeutic skills to assist clients.
  • Responsiveness to emails, texts and phone calls.
  • Ability to adapt and successfully uphold job functions in a full remote workforce or hybrid in-person remote workforce environment.
  • Adhere to remote workforce policies, procedures and protocols.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree required in social services, psychology, social work or other related field. Master's Degree Preferred.
The following are qualifications and requirements of the position:
  • Minimum 1 year experience providing therapeutic services to clients in the non-profit sector.
  • Familiarity with social work methods, applications and group and individual therapy techniques.
  • Knowledge of the physical, economic, emotional, educational, social, and mental health factors which affect clients in the criminal justice system and associated with post-incarceration life.
  • Knowledge of available community resources which may provide services for members and their family members.
  • Understanding of proper case management and referral procedures.
  • Experience with criminal justice involved population.
  • Strong written documentation and communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, required
  • Experience utilizing EMR systems.

  • Preferably bi-lingual in Spanish.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent or proficient technical skills to perform tasks related to Microsoft Office, email and case management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team.
  • Dependability and reliability to arrive and depart timely for scheduled shift.
  • Ability to frequently travel within the boroughs via public transportation and work from transient office locations.
