FINANCIAL PLANNING ANALYST

Reports to:Director of Corporate Finance
Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt
Location: Anchorage, AK

JOB SUMMARY: The Financial Planning Analyst will work with The Aleut Corporation (Aleut) and its subsidiaries to analyze and forecast financial, economic, and other data to provide accurate and timely information for strategic and operational decisions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop financial plans and reports for organization leadership team.
  • Create financial models based on analyses to support Aleut decision making.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities with integrity and in a professional, fair, open-minded, ethical, and timely manner.
  • Prepare detailed annual financial budget and monthly financial forecasts.
  • Assist with preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial analysis schedules of actual vs. budget variances.
  • Develop an understanding of key business activities to effectively evaluate business unit assumptions.
  • Analyze the financial implications of proposed investments or other transactions so that the leadership team can evaluate alternatives against the organization's business objectives.
  • Analyze revenues, expenses, costs, prices, investments, cash flow, profits, labor market trends, inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates.
  • Create financial models based on analyses to support organizational decision making.
  • Develop financial plans and reports for organizational leaders.
  • Analyze industry trends and makes recommendations based on those trends.
  • Assist with the evaluation of business investments (new and existing) to ensure alignment with strategy and financial objectives using return of investment (ROI) analysis.
  • Perform business analysis, reporting, and analytical schedules that assist in guiding the financial performance of the organization on a scheduled and ad-hoc basis. Performs balance sheet management activities, including liquidity functions (cash management), interest rate risk management (model data preparation), and investment portfolio monitoring.
  • Identify financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts.
  • Improves financial status by analyzing results; monitoring variances; identifying trends; analyzing results and monitoring variances.
  • Perform special analytical projects and ad-hoc reporting as requested.
  • Serve as a resource for internal customers by researching and answering their questions.
  • Perform cash analysis to support Financial Analysis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Ability to meet deadlines; maintain attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting software applications.
  • Professional intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of generally accepted auditing standards.
  • Thorough understanding of methods of systems analysis and the principles, design, and procedural methods used in computer and database development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  2. Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience as an analyst or similar role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience working with Cost Point and Sage Intact.
  2. Experience working in government contracting and construction EAC's analysis.
  3. Experience working with Alaska Native Corporations (ANC's).
