Assistant Director for Multicultural Recruitment

Job Overview
The Assistant Director for Multicultural Recruitment is responsible for the oversight of all recruitment functions that impact the multicultural student population. This includes serving as the intercultural advisor for the undergraduate admissions team, managing the BRIDGE (Building Roads to Intellectual Diversity and Greater Education) pre-college program, and recruiting a local territory to aid in the enrollment of the undergraduate population. A qualified candidate will have a strong sense of initiative, the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently, and be driven to achieve team and individual goals. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Partners with the Chief Intercultural Engagement Officer, the Office of Multicultural Development, Director of Intercultural Arts and Media, Chaplain's Office, and other faculty and staff to establish network opportunities at churches and schools with the goal of establishing Wheaton as a place of belonging for students from all cultures and backgrounds.
  • Ensures inclusive and effective recruitment policies and practices are crafted and executed across all recruitment efforts in partnership with the Chief Enrollment Management Officer and the Director of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Identifies new opportunities for the College, which may include vendors or tools to aid recruitment efforts, high schools and universities that are mission fit for Wheaton, and ministry organizations that are engaged with target populations.
  • Leads the Multicultural Scholarship Committee, managing all aspects of the application, review, and awarding process.
  • Provides vision and strategy for the overall direction of BRIDGE, and in collaboration with senior leadership, champions the implementation of these decisions.
  • Serves as primary decision maker in the evaluation of applications and the recommendation for admission to the BRIDGE program and within assigned undergraduate territory.
  • Conducts information sessions, campus tours, and interviews (in person and virtual) for both BRIDGE and the traditional undergraduate student population.
  • Identifies external funding opportunities, in partnership with the Office of Advancement and the Chief Enrollment Management Officer, that will aid in the college's ability to fund and grow BRIDGE. Manages the BRIDGE budget in partnership with senior leadership.
  • Hires, trains, and directly supervises student staff, seasonal employees, and contractors for summer program and various BRIDGE initiatives. Hires and coordinates faculty for BRIDGE program instruction.
  • Tracks college access performance indicators among BRIDGE, Church, Nieves, and Burr students and is aware of multicultural student alumni outcomes.
  • Ensures student and staff safety during summer program, ensuring clear points of contact between parents and the program, and equipping program staff for emergency scenarios.
  • Assumes responsibility for identified number of enrollments in assigned territory by monitoring key performance indicators throughout the recruitment cycle.
  • Represents Wheaton & BRIDGE at college fairs, high schools, and other recruitment events.
  • Cultivates and nurtures external connections with churches, high schools, and other influencers.
  • Organizes, attends, and facilitates events including school visits, student panels, webinars, alumni coffee house and yield receptions.
  • Plans and implement recruitment travel in assigned territory.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Demonstrated faith in Jesus with a discipleship mindset
  • A leader and team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multifaceted projects independently with thorough implementation
  • Exhibit a growth mindset by embracing creative autonomy
  • 2+ years of successful program management required, with preference given for experience with equity or inclusivity focused student development
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours as BRIDGE Program needs dictate, especially leading up to and during summer programming

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 10 pounds.
