The Adventure Trips Operations Specialist carries out daily operations and organization of the trip center. With the support of the Adventure Trips Unit Leader, they will ensure the completion of pre-trip preparations during layover and in-session– taking time off mid-session or as worked out with the Unit Leader. Preparation includes trip binders, inventory of food and gear, first aid supply re-stocking, gear care, gear repair, and assessing gear replacement needs. The Adventure Trip Specialist supports the pack out and pack in process for all trips as well as aiding in all operations of the Trip Center. They also support the guides in team development and growth/reflection pre- and post-trip and in the session and final closedown of the Trip Center. This position benefits from one year of prior experience leading Adventure Trips in a wilderness setting for Camp Echo or similar. Employment Type:

Part-time/ Seasonal Reports to:

Adventure Trip Unit Leader, Camp Echo SPECIFIC DUTIES Pre-Summer (Pre-staff training; optional based on staff availability & proximity to Camp Echo offices, and as needed): Participate in monthly planning calls prior to summer, assisting with Adventure Trip staff training and program planning. Attend spring Adventure Trip information sessions with full-time staff. Support spring office preparations for summer programs, including outreach to summer participants. During Summer (Staff training through Session 6): Lead assigned training sessions during Adventure Trip staff training, both on-camp and on-trail. Supports the Adventure Trip program’s daily operations. Self-directed execution of daily tasks. Supports the pack out/pack in process of all on and off camp wilderness programs including supporting Teen Wilderness programs. Facilitates gear check-out/check-in and food packing for Adventure Trips and supports Teen Wilderness programs in doing the same. Assists Trip Guides with pre-trip logistics. Supports pre-trip preparation of trip center and administrative logistics during session layovers. Keeps an inventory of Trip Center food, working gear, and gear needing service or replacement. Repairs all non-working gear and recommends replacement or send-away-for-repair of gear beyond ability. Provides final check that all Trip Guides have complete resources including camper health forms, accurate itineraries, emergency procedures, phone numbers, and gear. Assists in handling challenges/emergencies that come up during trips. Keeps the Trip Center clean and organized, and maintains a written log of safety checks, maintenance, and repairs. Works with the Adventure Trip Unit Leader to implement and document American Camping Association standards and protocols. Post-Summer: (approximately Labor Day – September 17) Support overall shutdown of Adventure Trip Program and Camp Echo, as necessary. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Provides additional supervision of trip participants, during their time on camp. Aids the medical check process of trip participants during their first day. Fields satellite phone check-ins in tandem with the Adventure Trips Unit Leader. Works with the Adventure Program Unit Leader to support portions of Teen and Main Camp Staff Training. Maintains the cleanliness of the living space and office space to which assigned. Reports maintenance needs to the Property Manager. Shares responsibility for Cause Driven Leader on Duty, teen program driver duties, and subbing in camp programs as necessary. Models, teaches, and upholds the Camp Echo Code of Conduct and protects the well-being of all campers. Maintains positive relationships with campers and other staff. Encourages physical, emotional, and spiritual growth and positive character development in all campers. Handles whatever else is necessary to ensure that the Adventure Trips program runs smoothly and safely. Practices cultural humility, striving to actively learn about and be sensitive to cultures different than their own. Prepared to perform any other professional camp duties as deemed necessary by the Adventure Trips Unit Leader of Program Director. QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred age 21. Previous experience with Adventure Trip program at Camp Echo or an equivalent camp. Proven leadership ability with organizational skills and a talent for supporting others. Certified in CPR and First Aid Preferred Wilderness First Responder and Lifeguard. Possess a variety of skills and primitive camping experience with knowledge of Leave No Trace and equity in the outdoors. A commitment to working with a diverse staff and camper population for the fulfillment of YMCA goals. RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL CAMP ECHO STAFF: Models, teaches, and upholds the Camp Echo Code of Conduct and protects the well-being of all campers and staff. Reports any behavior that goes against the Camp Echo Code of Conduct and/or puts any camper or staff at emotional or physical risk. Aids in the development and education of Teen Leadership program participants. Maintains positive relationships with campers and other staff. Encourages physical, emotional, and spiritual growth and positive character development in all campers. Practices cultural humility, striving to actively learn about and be sensitive to cultures different than their own. Is a team player, helping others to achieve their potential by enthusiastically saying “yes” when asked to help. Takes initiative and strives to be an active participant in creating positive programs and spaces at camp. Cares for and maintains any program equipment, supplies, and spaces they use including activity areas (keeping track of keys) and any shared spaces like the offices, Costume Closet and Program Office. Handles whatever else is necessary to ensure that programs run smoothly and safely, or anything else that is deemed necessary by supervisors. May be scheduled to work in-between sessions on at least one occasion to support the transition between groups. All summer positions require living on-site at Camp Echo in Fremont, Michigan.
