POSITION SUMMARY

Southland Industries is currently seeking a Proposal Specialist to join our Dulles, VA office.

This position will be located in our Dulles, VA office. As a member of Southland's E&C team, you will need to be able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where clear and precise communication is critical to the continued growth of the business. You will work in a team environment coordinating construction proposals with a heavy emphasis on word processing, industry research, desktop publishing, formatting and minimal graphic functions. You will support the proposal process by preparing proposal outlines and proposal templates; formatting proposal volumes including resumes and past performance references; developing tables and graphics; formatting and producing presentations and various promotional materials. Our proposal team is not limited to just your local peers, but is a comprised of a national team who collaborates with our corporate marketing teams to ensure the Southland Industries brand is able to standout in our industry. In addition, the successful candidate will support corporate proposal initiatives, prepare material for exhibits and conferences and assist in preparing marketing materials for division events, newsletters and other needs as assigned.

What you'll do:

  • You'll work with internal clients throughout the organization, as well as our Business Development and Proposal Teams to assist with the coordination, development, and production of high-quality proposal responses. This includes prequalification and proposal preparation content development, document layout, proofing, and document quality control.
  • You'll help put together supporting documentation as necessary including, but not limited to, scope, personnel resumes, project lists, organizational charts, supporting company statistics, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • You'll also work with our Business Teams on all RFQ and Proposal packages to develop deliverable lists, timelines for document preparation, submission requirements and responsibilities, and final package submission.
  • You'll use your Adobe Creative Suite and InDesign skills to, prepare and format general introductory packages, handouts, and presentations.
  • Work closely with members of the Proposal and Corporate Marketing team to make sure external materials are consistent with Southland Industries' standards.
  • Assist with creating, updating, and maintaining files and documents on the Proposal network.
What you'll need to be successful:
  • Intermediate knowledge of proposal development and project management from initial concept to final delivery
  • You can set deadlines for people and manage them to ensure you get what you need in order to provide a quality product in the required timeline.
  • Have the ability to prioritize work and self-manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • You must be detail oriented, thorough, self-motivated, enthusiastic, collaborative, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with or willing to learn about trade show logistics and representation
What you bring to the table:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design or Engineering required
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in writing, editing, researching, printing, and submitting online technical documentation using Adobe Creative Suite or Adobe InDesign
    • Newly graduated students are encouraged to apply and internship/course work experience using the Adobe Creative Suite and/or InDesign can be accepted in lieu of professional work experience;
      • Must be able to demonstrate basic working knowledge of the programs listed above
  • Recent and direct professional experience with Adobe InDesign is required
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required
  • Basic working knowledge of other Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Visio, Publisher and SharePoint required
