The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in the Accounting Department, including maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with budget and close processes. In addition, the Staff Accountant will support the Accounting Manager and VP of Finance as needed and respond to information requests and inquiries from the Management team. Essential job functions and duties, including but not limited to: Perform various month end journal entries and account reconciliations. Support Finance and Operations Management with reporting and analysis needs. Assist with internal control reviews and process improvement initiatives. Update and maintain all fixed asset records for the company. Responsible for tracking all vehicle fleet expenses including leases and gas cards. Assist with cash management and corporate credit card expense recognition. Assist with annual budget, forecast, yearend audits, and tax audits. Perform ad hoc projects as assigned throughout the year. Provide backup for other roles within the accounting department. Be a key contributor to routine monthly and quarterly management reporting deliverables, working with internal stakeholders across the organization to gather and articulate data through reporting. Participate in and own various financial modeling and analysis projects to help the team understand drivers of the business and how it is tracking against key initiatives. This would include: Report on monthly actual vs. budget variance analysis, pro-actively identifying business trends and risks/opportunities to achieving annual budget goals. Analyze P&L and report on key KPIs to understand business drivers and identify opportunities for margin expansion and cost savings to improve EBITDA. Listen closely and ask questions to ensure complete understanding of any issue or question-at-hand in order to provide the most concise and accurate reporting/analysis. Act as a system expert and resource for others on financial modeling, processes, and systems Maintains Modern’s commitment to compliance with all external laws and regulations as well as internal policies and guidelines. Key contributor to the finance team supporting various reporting requirements including month end reporting, budgeting, and forecasting initiatives.
