Position Overview

This role offers flexibility for remote or on-site work.

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Credential Verification and Medical Staff, and accountable to the Chief Medical Officer, President, and President-Elect of the Medical Staff, the Medical Staff Specialist is responsible for overseeing and organizing the daily functions of the medical staff within MaineHealth. This position acts as a subject matter authority on accreditation criteria, legal obligations, and best practices pertinent to the Medical Staff organization. Additionally, the specialist serves as a vital link between the broader Medical Staff, elected leadership, hospital administration, legal affairs, the Board, and various Leadership teams across MaineHealth.

Utilizing extensive knowledge of the Medical Staff structure, relevant By-laws, accreditation criteria, and applicable state and federal regulations, the Medical Staff Specialist is tasked with managing the credentialing and privileging processes. This ensures that all healthcare providers are adequately qualified and capable of delivering high-quality care to patients.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Education: A Bachelor's degree or a minimum of five years of equivalent professional experience in a related field.
  2. Licenses/Certifications: Not applicable.
  3. Experience: Familiarity with credentialing procedures, accreditation and regulatory standards, as well as state and federal laws concerning provider licensure is preferred; customer service skills typically gained through two to four years of relevant experience.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, database management, and website navigation.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing abilities; capacity to collaborate effectively with various departments, staff at all levels, and external practice organizations.
  6. Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  7. Understanding of project management and office administrative practices.
