What you will do: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in handling bulk loading of Portland cement into rail cars and trucks for shipment to customers and terminals. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice. Main Responsibilities: Works with Logistics regarding quantity, type of cement, mode of shipment and related information necessary to load trucks and/or rail cars for shipment to customers and terminals. Coordinates with terminals to determine method of transportation, rail or truck, and types of cement needed. Utilizes shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules. Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments. Makes daily measurement of product in loading bins to assure adequate supplies of cement for shipment. Responsible for collection of cement from bins, rail cars, and trucks for quality control purposes. Maintains accuracy of loading scales by requesting checks by manufacturer and state inspectors. Makes periodic contacts with truck carriers relative to availability of trucks and arrival times during peak shipping seasons. Places requisitions for materials and parts from storeroom and vendors. Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair. Monitors cement transporting and loading equipment for proper operation and lubrication. Maintains inventory of types of cement. Participates in developing the annual departmental budget. Directs the work of employees assigned to operation of the bulk loading, weighing stations, locomotive and forklift operators as well as material handling and car. Advises prospective employees and current employees of job duties and responsibilities during bidding procedures; observes and evaluates performance; arranges for vacations and other time off; reviews daily time cards for employee attendance; checks for work order and equipment numbers and approves hours worked, including overtime; and informs employees of policies and practices and ensures adherence. Maintains and enforces a safe working environment, adheres to safety policies and practices, supervises daily housekeeping of assigned area, adheres to all GCC policies and procedures along with proper use of plant radios. Be familiar with MSHA and OSHA safety rules, safety procedures for mobile equipment, lockout/tagout policy, confined space permit policy, hot work policy, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection, proper containment, and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents and other environmentally sensitive materials. Ensures quality of work performed, supports, promotes and utilizes continuous improvement system, observes, and promotes best practices, good time management and is able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure. Travels to provide support for other Logistics Terminals, as needed. Assists in setup for portable Terminals and supervises construction crews when needed. Manages performance of direct reports with emphasis on productivity, efficiency, safety, and service delivery. Recruits, interviews, selects, trains, motivates, coaches, and mentors direct reports. Ensures that all applicable company policies/procedures are followed. Oversees all aspects including CI/SAP/POS/5S/Invoicing and any other GCC programs. May manage terminals or multiple terminals as needed.
