Job Description: Hy-Vee, Inc. FLSA: Exempt Revision Date: 07/2024 General Function: Manages and directs the operations and duties performed by employees of the Risk Management Department. Supports Hy-Vee’s mission of customer service through the efforts of all activities handled by the Risk Management Department. Supports store and corporate personnel with their operational challenges by providing guidance on insurance coverage or other elements of protection of Hy-Vee assets. Reporting Relations: Accountable and Reports to: SVP, Government Relations & Corporate Compliance Positions that Report to you: Director Claims Management, Risk Management Specialist, Claims Specialist, Property/Casualty Processor Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Determines risk and level of risk. Advises and makes recommendations on insurance placement based on identified risks captured through claim, market, and operational analysis. Reviews claim activity, determines trends, and makes recommendations. Issues monthly reports. Oversees and develops risk management team members. Leads and implements department strategy. Manages non-litigated casualty and property claims. Manages third-party adjustors for cost containment, efficiency and timeliness of claim adjustments, and communication with customers and employees. Reviews insurance costs and performs cost allocations to various operations and administrative departments. Works with retail stores regarding claims handling and answers questions related to claim and exposure. Provides customer service to customers, employees, and vendors through leadership and communication to members of the risk management team. Provides insurance and premiums to the subsidiaries of Hy-Vee as the insurance carrier. Provides claim adjusting oversight of the subsidiary claims. Responsible for creating a budget, allocating personnel, and managing expenses. Participates in compliance committee and provides guidance on safety-related training and reporting. Determines ROI on risk mitigation strategy. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities: Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required. Manages the corporate fleet. Education and Experience: 4-year college degree and 5 years of similar or related work experience. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics: Commitment to the Hy-Vee Mission and a willingness to promote the values of the company. Good verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to and interact with people in a friendly, professional manner. Ability to delegate tasks. Ability to proactively identify problems, develop and execute solutions. Strong analytical skills. Ability to interact with basic computer systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications, as well as job-specific programs. Strong organizational skills. Ability to make timely, effective decisions. Working Conditions: The duties for this position are normally in an office environment. There is significant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Equipment Used to Perform Job: Standard tools and equipment used in an office environment including personal computer, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Contacts: Has daily contact with customers, store personnel, suppliers/vendors and occasional contact with the general public and Federal/State Governmental or Regulatory Agencies.
