Communications Coordinator
- Develop, evaluate, and enforce operational policies and procedures to ensure the Emergency Communications Center operates in a professional and timely manner.
- Serves as liaison and effectively represents the Sheriff's Office Emergency Communications Center in contacts with the public, Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS personnel. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
- Supervise and evaluate work performance of 911 Telecommunications' staff; provide constructive feedback to ensure quality service; ensure staff follows established federal and state laws, procedures and guidelines for 911 Emergency telecommunications including TCIC/NCIC work, entries, modifications, and cancellations..
- Manage assigned personnel by motivating and leading, correcting personnel issues, resolving problems and administering the disciplinary process. Provided training to staff in work procedures. Responsible for the annual evaluations of shift personnel.
- Responsible for doing quality control and quality improvement for the shift assigned to them by the communications manager; Responsible for equipment maintenance.
- Ensuring that all work is completed; Help with decision-making.
- Responsible for scheduling personnel and ensuring that each shift is adequately staffed. Identify and respond to developing situations alerting appropriate agency staff, authorities, and emergency personnel according to established procedures while coordinating with other enforcement agencies or departments to obtain additional help as needed
- Respond to inquiries or complaints related to Communications Center operations, activities, or personnel. Research inquiry/complaint, report findings, and initiate resolution..
- Maintain strict confidentiality of information and data related to department and dispatch operations.
- Answering, entering and dispatching Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS calls for service including TDD/TTY; Provide courtesy and servitude to the public; Provide medical pre arrival instructions to the public.
- Operates numerous highly technical computer systems including the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD); enter and retrieves information to and from various databases including TCIC/NCIC, Fort Bend County computer systems, and a variety of local, regional, and state emergency response databases. Telecommuncations Officers must be willing to work during any declared Office of Emergency Management event and accept different hours and days off depending on the demands of the Fort Bend County Communications Center.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
- Required to occasionally work overtime.
- High school diploma/GED (Must be 18 years of age). Certificate compensation will be given for those who have achieved TCOLE certifications of Intermediate, Advanced and Master.
- A minimum of five (5) or more years working as an emergency dispatcher, or a total of five (5) years law enforcement job related experience with three (3) years telecommunications experience. Progressively responsible roles in leadership, training or supervision within a 9-1-1 communications center a plus.
- Strong computer skills including Working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, and database.
- "Criti-call" candidate test; data-entry/dispatch simulation test score of 3500 KPH or above; typing test with minimum score of 35 wpm.
- Verbal and written communication skills; Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with citizens and employees of the organization.
- Management, organizational, and supervisory skills; Ability to function efficiently without direct supervision and in the absence of written or oral instructions under varying conditions of activity. Ability to prioritize own/others' work.
- TCOLE Intermediate Telecommunications Operator Certification. Knowledge of TLETS; 911 operations; Working knowledge of DOS, Windows, PC Hardware and RS 6000 AIX computer devices.
STARTING SALARY: $ 42.00 hourly
