Job Summary
The Office of the Chief Staff Attorney is seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to provide support for Staff Attorneys in preparing appeals for Judicial review and disposition.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage cases throughout the petition stage of the appeal, including receiving assigned cases from the Clerk's Office and organizing and assigning cases for presentation to the Court.
- Organize, schedule, and provide oversight of the Court's Writ Panel dockets, ensuring dispositions are timely reported to the Clerk's Office.
- Maintain case flow through the case management system and communicate with the Clerk's Office.
- Provide research and administrative support functions as assigned by the Chief Staff Attorney.
- Assist in the procedural review of appeals and present continuance requests and motions to the Court.
- Assist with training new attorneys and interns in office orientation, computer applications, and Court rules and requirements.
Requirements
- Competent working knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, case management systems, and document management systems.
- Knowledge of appellate rules and regulations is a plus.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills, proficiency in time management, ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, adjust priorities without close supervision, and interact effectively with Court staff and the general public.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel is required, and a solid working knowledge of databases, cite-checking, Lexis, and other legal search engines is preferred.

Education and Experience
- A bachelor's degree or a paralegal certificate is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required qualifications may substitute for educational criteria.
