Role: The Junior FP&A Analyst is an integral part of the Data & Analytics team, supporting the bank's corporate financial planning and analysis efforts. This role involves assisting with margin planning, cash flow management, liquidity, and capital planning. The Junior FP&A Analyst will contribute to strategic decision-making by helping to analyze financial and non-financial data, providing insights that inform and enhance business strategies. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with team members at all levels, including executive leadership, as part of the ongoing development and execution of the bank's comprehensive Data Strategy.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process, focusing on Balance Sheet and margin planning, by gathering data and performing initial analyses
  • Work with different teams to contribute to budgets, forecasts, and strategic initiatives
  • Help develop and maintain financial models to support forecasting and strategic planning efforts
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial projections and reports for review by leadership, contributing to long-term planning
  • Support daily and 90-day cash flow projections, and assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Help analyze month-end variances against budgets, identify gaps, and suggest cost-saving measures
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends and provide insights that support business strategies and financial health
  • Provide support for leadership through data analysis, financial reports, and recommendations
  • Assist in performing cost-benefit analyses to recommend and implement cost-saving initiatives
  • Summarize and present data insights to management, aiding in the financial close process
  • Monitor key operational metrics and offer recommendations based on performance indicators
  • Help track financial performance and analyze unexpected variances to support strategic adjustments
  • Contribute to efforts to improve cross-company margins and cash flow
  • Help align client pricing with financial strategies and assist in making product pricing decisions
  • Aid in automating reporting processes and build strong working relationships across business units

Requirements

Competencies & Knowledge:
  • Proactive in supporting team efforts and contributing positively to the bank's goals
  • Understanding of fundamental financial and operational functions
  • Basic knowledge of financial modelling and scenario analysis, with a willingness to develop these skills further
  • Understanding of accounting principles and financial statements
  • Proficient in using financial software for designing and maintaining financial reports and models
  • Familiarity with financial reporting software like ProfitStar or similar tools is a plus
  • Eagerness to learn and improve, with a focus on achieving high standards of work
  • Strong team-oriented approach with a commitment to delivering quality service and working well with others
Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to present data clearly and effectively, including to senior management
  • Basic skills in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis, with a desire to develop these further
  • Proficient in Excel (e.g., using formulas, pivot tables) and basic SQL (e.g., running queries)
  • Demonstrated potential to make a positive impact and influence decisions within a team or organization
  • Familiarity with financial systems and tools, with an interest in learning about automation and advanced features
  • Ability to handle and manage data from various sources for effective reporting and analysis
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Quantitative degrees (e.g., Mathematics, Economics) are an added advantage
Experience:
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in FP&A, accounting, or business analysis. Entry-level candidates with internships or relevant coursework may also be considered
  • Experience in a banking environment is desirable but not required. Candidates with a strong foundation in finance are encouraged to apply
  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements is recommended
Interpersonal Skills: A high level of trust, diplomacy, courtesy, and tact is essential for this role. It involves frequent personal interactions, often addressing sensitive matters. That ability to empathize, foster strong relationships, and manage escalations effectively is crucial. The role requires navigating complex situations with professionalism and understanding, ensuring positive and constructive outcomes.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
