Job Overview:


The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical support to the organization. This role ensures that the organization's financial records are accurate and up-to-date, and assists in maintaining the overall financial health of the non-profit. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager to prepare financial reports, manage accounts payable and receivable, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting:

    • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Ensure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions.
    • Prepare reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and other financial statements.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable:

    • Process and record accounts payable transactions; ensure that all invoices are paid accurately and in accordance with finance policies and procedures.
    • Manage accounts receivable; ensure that donations, grants, and other receivables are processed and recorded accurately.
    • Follow up on outstanding invoices and receivables as needed.
  • Month-End Close:

    • Complete month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
    • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
    • Assist in preparing month-end financial reports for management review.
  • Bank Reconciliations:

    • Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records.
    • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies between bank statements and general ledger accounts.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
    • Provide support in the development of financial forecasts.
  • Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations.
    • Support internal and external audits as needed.
  • General Ledger Maintenance:

    • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring that all entries are accurate and properly coded.
    • Assist in month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Additional Duties:

    • Provide support during the annual budgeting process.
    • Assist in special projects and initiatives as needed.
    • Contribute to process improvements within the finance department.
Qualifications:
  • Education:

    • Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • Skills:

    • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and non-profit financial management.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

This position is all on-site.
Pay range, depending on experience: $23.00-29.00 per hour, overtime eligible
