Position Overview:


The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in delivering financial, administrative, and clerical support to the organization. This position is vital in ensuring that the financial records are precise and current, contributing to the overall fiscal health of the organization. The Staff Accountant collaborates closely with the Finance Manager to generate financial reports, oversee accounts payable and receivable, and guarantee adherence to accounting standards and regulations.



Core Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Assist in the creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Ensure timely and precise recording of all financial transactions.
    • Prepare reconciliations for bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and other financial statements.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable:
    • Process and document accounts payable transactions; ensure all invoices are paid accurately and in line with financial policies.
    • Manage accounts receivable; ensure that donations, grants, and other receivables are processed and recorded correctly.
    • Follow up on outstanding invoices and receivables as necessary.
  • Month-End Close:
    • Complete month-end closing activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
    • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
    • Assist in preparing month-end financial reports for management review.
  • Bank Reconciliations:
    • Conduct monthly bank reconciliations to verify the accuracy of financial records.
    • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies between bank statements and general ledger accounts.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
    • Support the development of financial forecasts.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations.
    • Support internal and external audits as required.
  • General Ledger Maintenance:
    • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and properly classified.
    • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Provide assistance during the annual budgeting process.
    • Support special projects and initiatives as required.
    • Contribute to process enhancements within the finance department.


Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accounting, preferably within a non-profit environment.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and non-profit financial management.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
    • Capability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

This position is entirely on-site.
Compensation range, based on experience: $ per hour, overtime eligible
