Position Overview:

The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in delivering financial, administrative, and clerical support to the organization. This position is essential for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the organization's financial records, thereby supporting the overall financial stability of the entity. The Staff Accountant collaborates closely with the Finance Manager to generate financial reports, oversee accounts payable and receivable, and ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulations.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
    • Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and promptly.
    • Prepare reconciliations for bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and other financial documents.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable:
    • Process and document accounts payable transactions; ensure accurate payment of all invoices in line with financial policies.
    • Manage accounts receivable; ensure accurate processing and recording of donations, grants, and other receivables.
    • Follow up on outstanding invoices and receivables as necessary.
  • Month-End Close:
    • Complete month-end closing activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
    • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts to guarantee accuracy and completeness.
    • Assist in preparing month-end financial reports for management review.
  • Bank Reconciliations:
    • Conduct monthly bank reconciliations to ensure the precision of financial records.
    • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between bank statements and general ledger accounts.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
    • Support the development of financial forecasts.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local financial regulations.
    • Support internal and external audits as required.
  • General Ledger Maintenance:
    • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and appropriately categorized.
    • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Provide support during the annual budgeting process.
    • Assist in special projects and initiatives as required.
    • Contribute to process enhancements within the finance department.


Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably within a non-profit organization.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
    • Strong grasp of accounting principles and non-profit financial management.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational capabilities.
    • Able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

This position is entirely on-site.
Compensation range, based on experience: $ per hour, overtime eligible
