Job Location: Marion, VA 24354 (relocation assistance available if needed)

Job Summary

The HR Generalist will primarily be responsible for the Full-Cycle Recruiting and Hiring of new employees at Blade HQ at our Virginia location. The HR Generalist will serve as our go to HR representative at our Marion, Virginia location for employee relation issues (FMLA, ADA, incidents or injuries, WC claims, complaints, queries on benefits, payroll, interpretations of the handbook, terminations, disciplinary actions, etc.). Secondly, the HR Generalist will act as the Occupational Health & Safety Specialist reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing work environments to develop programs and procedures to control, reduce, and eliminate potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials. Thirdly, the HR Generalist will assist the VP of Operations in developing and monitoring directives given to managers for quality improvement, process proficiency, and compliance enforcement. Lastly, this position will also assist as needed in operational administrative functions such as speedy and accurate invoicing, keeping and collecting meeting minutes. The HR Generalist should be well organized, excellent with time management, and good at record keeping. They should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be experienced in managing conflict as well as building and maintaining business relationships. The Business Operations Specialist will observe, gather and analyze data to make informed decisions and assist other managers and leadership with problem solving.

Tasks/Responsibilities
  • Address all employee relation issues at our Virginia location, under the direction of the HR Manager, such as but not limited to harassment allegations, complaints, workplace injuries and incidents, etc.
  • Oversee all aspects of Full-Cycle Recruiting for Marion VA location including but not limited to:
    • Creating job postings and job descriptions.
    • Scheduling and conducting phone interviews.
    • Reviewing resumes.
    • Scheduling in-person interviews with Managers.
    • Maintain applicant documentation records.
    • Processing offer letters.
    • Initiate and process the onboarding for new hires at our Virginia location.
    • Conducting Orientation/Employee first day.
  • Serve as liaison for handbook policy interpretation, questions on benefits, payroll.
  • Prepare and Maintain employment records both digital and paper copies, such as but not limited to:
    • Trainings
    • Disciplinary actions
    • Resignations
    • Terminations
    • Changes to benefits and payroll
    • General notes
    • Promotions
    • Leaves
  • Conduct exit interviews.
  • Handle workplace incidents such as injuries, altercations, discrepancies, etc.
  • Assist with HR projects as needed under the direction of the HR Manager.
  • Serve as HR Representative for Virginia location.
  • Other HR related tasks as needed.
  • Serve as the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist
    • Responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing work environments to develop programs and procedures to control, reduce, and eliminate potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
    • Analyzing safety metrics, communicating results to leadership, and ensuring compliance with safety standards (Drills, Training, First Aid, etc.).
    • Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
  • Assist the VP of Operations in developing and monitoring directives given to managers for quality improvement, process proficiency, and compliance enforcement.
    • Aid Managers in reviewing performance data to measure productivity or goal achievement or to identify areas needing cost reduction or program improvement.
    • Create and implement change management strategies.
    • Assist in leadership development and training.
    • Analyze data to inform operational decisions or activities.
    • Provide support for organizational operations, projects, or services.
    • Assist as needed with operational administrative functions such as invoicing, recording meeting minutes, and documentation for process objectives.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Highly literate in writing and speaking the English language.
  • Excellent phone communication and etiquette.
  • Highly organized with digital and paper record keeping.
  • Able to maintain a schedule and prioritize tasks.
  • Proficient with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe, Outlook, and other similar computer software.
  • Excellent mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent at building relationships on a professional level.
  • Basic knowledge of Federal and VA employment laws and how they are applied, such as FLSA, ADA, FMLA, EEO, etc.
  • High in self-awareness
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Strong active listening and oral comprehension skills.
  • Experienced in monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
Education and Experience
  • 2+ years of Recruiting, HR Generalist, or related experience to Human Resources is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or similar fields of study required. Additional 2+ years' experience will be acceptable if no formal degree.
  • Highly proficient using HRIS and/or other electronic record keeping or data collection systems.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and workplace terminology.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction preferred.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods preferred.

  • Must be comfortable with knives/sharp objects in the workplace.
