Research Scientist, Design and Simulation, AWS Center for Quantum Computing

The AWS Center for Quantum Computing is a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians, all working to innovate in quantum computing for the benefit of our customers.

We are looking to hire a Research Scientist to design and model novel superconducting quantum devices, including qubits, readout and control schemes, and advanced quantum processors. Candidates with a track record of original scientific contributions and/or software development experience will be preferred. We are looking for candidates with strong engineering principles and resourcefulness. Organization and communication skills are essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. PhD in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or equivalent degree in a similar field.
  2. Knowledge of quantum mechanics, with expertise in at least one of the following topics: quantum technologies (sensing, communications, computing, etc.), superconducting qubits, hybrid quantum acoustic devices, cavity/circuit QED, quantum optics, open quantum systems, superconductivity (phenomenology or microscopic theory).
  3. Proficient in a scientific programming environment.
  4. Experience with microwave and/or multiphysics modeling software (one or more of COMSOL, Sonnet, Microwave Office, ANSYS, Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR, Palace, etc.).
  5. Experience with device layout scripting and automation.
  6. Effective working in a team environment with other engineers, scientists, and technicians who have a wide range of technical skill levels.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market.
