Team Overview:
The AI Foundations team plays a pivotal role in actualizing our vision for AI at Capital One. Our work encompasses every facet of the research lifecycle, from collaborating with academic institutions to developing production systems. We partner with product, technology, and business leaders to implement cutting-edge AI solutions in our operations.
Key Responsibilities:
As a member of our team, you will:
1. Collaborate with a diverse group of data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers to create AI-driven products that redefine customer engagement with their finances.
2. Utilize a comprehensive technology stack, including Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, VectorDBs, and more, to extract insights from vast amounts of numerical and textual data.
3. Develop AI foundation models through all stages of the process, from design to training, evaluation, validation, and deployment.
4. Engage in impactful applied research to advance the latest AI innovations and integrate them into next-generation customer experiences.
5. Use your interpersonal skills to translate complex concepts into clear business objectives.

- Leadership qualities, challenging conventional wisdom and collaborating with stakeholders to enhance existing processes.
- Technical proficiency in open-source languages, with a strong desire to develop further, including hands-on experience in building AI foundation models using open-source tools and cloud platforms.
- A deep understanding of AI methodologies and a proven track record in delivering scalable models across various domains, including language, images, events, or graphs.
Qualifications:
- PhD with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Applied Research, or a Master’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
- Preferred qualifications include a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
