The Southwest Research Institute is seeking a highly skilled and experienced robotics research professional to join our team as a Lead Robotics Research Scientist. In this role, you will be responsible for leading research efforts in robotics and automation, with a focus on developing and implementing advanced robotic technologies.
Key Responsibilities- Research and Development: Design, implement, and test advanced robotic technologies, including localization, navigation, mapping, path/trajectory planning, perception, and modeling and simulation.
- Research Direction and Strategy: Help develop and implement the research direction and strategy of the Robotics Department, identifying and pursuing new research directions for current and emerging technologies in automated and autonomous vehicles and manufacturing robotics.
- Mentorship and Collaboration: Mentor colleagues to raise the bar for research and development across the entire organization, and collaborate with other researchers and engineers to advance the state of the art in robotics and automation.
- Business Development and Proposal Writing: Write proposals to capture internal and external funding for novel robotics and automation research, and develop tools and techniques to improve research and development velocity and capability.
- Education and Experience: Requires a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Robotics, Mechatronics, Controls, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other robotics-related degree, with 8-18 years of industry, academic, or government research experience in autonomous/automated vehicles or robotics in the unmanned ground (UGV), air (UAS), sea (USV or UUV), or manufacturing robotics domains.
- Strong Technical Skills: Strong software and software engineering skills, with proficiency in C++ and Python.
- Business Acumen: 1+ year of business development and/or proposal writing experience.
- Communication Skills: Strong writing and presentation skills.
- Valid Driver's License: A valid/clear driver's license is required.
