Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist II to join our team at Leidos. As a key member of our Directed Energy Health Effects Directorate, you will be responsible for developing and leading scientific research addressing various aspects of military medicine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and conduct protocol-driven scientific research in biomodelling, biophotonics, diagnostic platforms, and directed energy health/medical effects.
  • Design and develop cutting-edge Modeling & Simulation (M&S) tools and algorithms to address complex issues regarding directed energy interactions with biological systems.
  • Evaluate user needs, concept of operations, and high-level systems architecture to develop M&S requirements.
  • Develop algorithms, perform analyses, and automate data processing.
  • Apply Digital Engineering concepts, processes, and tools to enable mission operations.
  • Generate documentation on software operation and test new instrumentation.
  • Develop presentation materials, including proposals, reports, presentations, and journal articles, and present findings at technical and professional meetings.
  • Aid in project proposal development and design.
  • Write protocol-driven research proposals, animal use protocols, human research protocols, abstracts, conference presentations, technical reports, final reports, standard operating procedures, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Provide guidance to junior scientist contract personnel on data evaluation, presentation material development, and writing of Government-approved SOPs for research under contract.
  • Oversee junior contract personnel during experimental subject preparation and aid in training and development of experimental subjects for experimental procedures in accordance with approved animal or human use protocols.
  • Provide aid in the development and establishment of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysis.
  • Oversee contract personnel associated with research projects and manage research data.
  • Perform surgical and non-surgical procedures on animal models as needed for survival and non-survival studies.
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant field.
  • Two years of Postdoctoral experience or equivalent.
  • Experience using one or more of the following: C++, Python, R, SQL, PostgreSQL, Linux, MATLAB, VBA, or STK is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams with program managers, scientists, and engineers for experiment development and execution.
  • Ability to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level, but current clearance is not required.
  • Current certification or ability to obtain a certification within 3 months of start in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent.
  • US citizenship is required due to Federal contract requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineering analysis experience.
  • Experience in military medical research laboratory.
  • Experience with military electronic equipment.
