The Environmental Engineer helps lead all environmental related activities and provides facilities engineering support. This individual partners with the Maintenance Manager, Legal and Global Environmental Engineering teams on more complex issues. Key to this role is engagement in decision making and policy development with management as well as accountability for compliance and project execution. This individual will stay current with regulatory development and is a primary resource in technical and non-technical functions—both internal and external to the company. THE DETAILS: Lead all environmental activities, ensuring manufacturing capability Ensure operating headroom under all permitted thresholds Keep all permits current; anticipate and re-permit when required Demonstrate compliance with all environmental requirements including programs, plans, training, reporting, monitoring and record keeping Maintain working relationships with regulators Lead agency inspections Direct Environmental Services personnel on treatment and reporting requirements. Stay current with regulatory development; interpret rules and permit requirements; anticipate and prepare for changes Identify facility risks, propose solutions and assist with resolution Plan and prepare for facility changes to ensure ongoing compliance Prepare and manage the annual Environmental budget Participate in conferences and agency rule development activities as appropriate Facility Engineering Provides facility engineering support to plant and administration for all building and campus related activities according to regulatory requirements Provides resource estimates for performing facility maintenance tasks and risk analysis for deferring or delaying maintenance tasks Knowledge of water systems, hydraulics, heat transfer and fluid piping desired Able to read facility diagrams and blueprints Oversees facility projects ensuring on time delivery and budget compliance Communication and Documentation Maintain open communication through conversation and both formal and informal documents Exhibit strong written and verbal communication. Provide good attention to detail and organization for maintaining documentation. QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering preferred; major in Environmental, Mechanical or Chemical engineering preferred; Master’s degree a plus 5+ years’ experience (or 2-4 years if M.S. Engineering) maintaining environmental and safety programs at a major industrial facility including working with corresponding regulators High level of knowledge and understanding of environmental rules and permits Solid understanding of facility systems and building codes Able to complete responsibilities in a timely, professional and quality manner Solve problems analytically; search out relevant information and gauge its importance when making decisions Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms Collaborative and effective team player and able to work with teams who are globally dispersed Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn; seek out development activities to improve skills and increase knowledge; learn from other team members and own mistakes Ability to translate specific goals into action and follow through to achieve goals Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and data management software (SAP preferred) For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Washington, Colorado, Nevada, California, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, Oregon Tool is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $110,000 to $125,000.
