The Program Manager provides oversight of ASN's portfolio of grants, fellowships, and prize competitions for the Research, Discovery, and Innovation Department (RDI). This portfolio is focused on KidneyCure, established by the ASN Foundation in 2012 to fund research projects and fellowships in support of pre-doctoral to early-career kidney medicine investigators. It also includes Kidney Innovation Accelerator (KidneyX), a strategic program for the Society to accelerate innovation in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney diseases. The Program Manager will support the KidneyCure Board of Directors by providing oversight to the proposal, application, and review processes, and by coordinating among partners and ASN and KidneyCure leadership on final selection and awards. Supported by a Program Associate responsible for implementing daily tasks and activities, the Program Manager is accountable for: program implementation within a grants, fellowship, or prize portfolio; budget management; serving as Secretariat to the Grants Review Committee; individual constituency engagement that includes strategic partners, leadership, applicants, reviewers, awardees, and non-awardees; internal and external communications and marketing; and strategic planning on the impact and direction of the portfolio activities. Reporting to the ASN Vice President (VP) of RDI and in collaboration with the RDI Director, the Program Manager responsibilities include the opportunity to exhibit critical thinking, creativity, and team building. Responsibilities: Oversees administration of grants and fellowships, including solicitation, selection, management of pre- and post-award processes, and monitoring of compliance. Manages implementation of competitions, including design, submission, review, and selection of award recipients in coordination with external partners and KidneyCure and ASN leadership to finalize awards. Coordinates and moderates KidneyCure committees and panels in collaboration with the associated Chairs and RDI leadership. Communicates progress and translates feedback provided by high-level stakeholders, including other ASN Alliance for Kidney Health departments. Supervises the Program Associate. Mentors the Associate and junior team members to ensure seamless progress on program management and communications. Designs, plans, and executes KidneyCure and KidneyX in person and virtual events. Designs, implements, and tracks communication plans between ASN and external partners, among award recipients, and to the broader community on program updates, resources, and other forums. Collaborates with the RDI VP, Director, and other ASN Staff to develop and implement best practices and tools for administration of competitions for grants, fellowships, and prize competitions across RDI. Assume other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. Skills and Experience Minimum of eight to 10 years of work experience, including experience managing individuals or a team. Minimum five years program management experience. Background in research training, biomedical entrepreneurship, start-ups, industry, and/or investments in research funding and commercialization preferred. Experience providing strategic and programmatic oversight of grants and fellowships for career advancement, ideally related to initiatives funded by the federal government or philanthropies. Ability to drive diverse stakeholders to consensus using interpersonal skills. Self-directed with strong administrative, organizational, time-management, communication, business writing, and financial management skills. Experience planning and coordinating virtual and in-person workshops and seminars. Ability to work in highly a collaborative virtual work environment, balance challenging priorities, and manage time efficiently. Undergraduate degree required. Master's degree encouraged but not required. This position is based in Washington, DC, where ASN employs a hybrid work environment (80 days per year in the office required).
