In the Department of Ecology, Evolution, & Marine Biology we study how living organisms interact with their environments and with each other, shaping and being shaped by the world around them. **Brief Summary of Job Duties**

Under the direction of the EEMB Academic Business Officer (ABO), manages the biological sciences development/maintenance/repair facility including supervision of one Development Technician 3. Responsibilities include the functional management of the shop's operations, the establishment of workload priorities, and the supervision of technical staff. Facility responsibilities include: a wide variety of electro-mechanical services (design, development and maintenance); engineering services in support of teaching and research activities; assembly/modification/repair of scientific and laboratory equipment; safe operation of all standard and specialized machine shop tools; performance of sheet metal/welding/carpentry work; reading and interpreting blueprints/sketches/manuals for assembly/installation/maintenance/repair of specialized apparatus/equipment. Acts as primary resource person for all lab facilities, safety systems, and building utilities. Is responsible for after-hours emergency response and repair. The position requires a person who possesses expert technical skills in a wide variety of trades with an emphasis in refrigeration (EPA 608 Universal License), ability to direct/supervise other employees, and ability to interface effectively with faculty, researchers and students.

**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- 7-9 years fabrication, design, overall technical competence.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience in the vast majority of consumer refrigeration appliances AND -80 cascade refrigeration systems.
- Is proficient in the use of DVOM, amp meter, oscilloscope, and meg ohmmeter.
- Working knowledge of the principles and methods related to the design, development, and fabrication of scientific equipment.
- Working technical skills associated with providing research support.
- Possesses high level of skill in a variety of mechanical areas, such as metals, alloys, woods, plastic, glass, electrical and plumbing.
- Must possess a working knowledge of the full spectrum of scientific lab equipment including -80's, swamp coolers, centrifuges, etc.
- Must be able to quickly learn the campus procurement system (Gateway) for entering, tracking, and referencing purchase orders.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Excellent ability to establish employee goals.
- Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate, and influence others and to develop and maintain high standards of customer service.
