Position Overview:

The Project Engineer (PE) role serves as the introductory phase of the HITT Futures Leadership program. The PE collaborates closely with a Futures program superintendent to acquire on-site experience for a minimum of one full year. Training encompasses various aspects of construction operations, client engagement, subcontractor management, project scheduling, site safety, corporate culture, and organizational competencies, paving the way for advancement as an assistant project manager, assistant superintendent, assistant estimator, assistant safety superintendent, or assistant MEP manager.

Key Responsibilities:Organizational Skills
  • Establish and manage a jobsite office.
  • Maintain comprehensive jobsite records, including project directories, subcontractor lists, submittal logs, RFI logs, and correspondence.
  • Oversee all onsite construction documentation, including plans, specifications, shop drawings, as-built drawings, and related revisions.
  • Complete daily reports as directed.
  • Update as-built drawings as necessary.
Site Operations Skills
  • Install appropriate site signage and postings.
  • Identify safety measures required prior to demolition.
  • Supervise the installation of building and site protection.
  • Assist in layout for partitions and ceilings.
  • Support site measurements for millwork, glass, and doors.
  • Participate in site inspections to ensure quality and workmanship standards are upheld.
  • Manage specific construction tasks assigned to them.
  • Conduct basic material take-offs, place supplier orders, and oversee material deliveries.
  • Interpret basic coordination drawings.
  • Assist the Superintendent with survey and layout instruments.
  • Understand basic tests and reports (air balance, soils report, concrete test).
  • Facilitate subcontractor foremen's meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Comprehend cost implications associated with specific construction tasks at various project stages.
Project Planning and Safety Skills
  • Make periodic updates to the project schedule as directed.
  • Assist in the inspection process and execute inspections within the project's jurisdiction.
  • Implement HITT's corporate safety program on the jobsite.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks as directed.
  • Complete all required safety reports as directed.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required; military experience or a four-year degree in construction, engineering, or business preferred.
  • Prior experience on commercial job sites is strongly preferred.
  • A genuine passion for construction and the industry, with the ability to recognize and pursue quality.
  • Proficiency in sector/project-specific software systems, including Microsoft Office suite (Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), ProCore, Adobe, BlueBeam, JD Edwards.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Communicate clearly and professionally, focusing on appropriate business writing and verbal skills.
    • Organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
