Position Overview:

The role of a Project Engineer (PE) is a foundational step within the HITT Futures Leadership program. The PE collaborates closely with a Futures program superintendent to gain invaluable on-site experience over a full year. The training encompasses various aspects of construction operations, client relations, subcontractor engagement, project management, site safety, and organizational skills, all aimed at preparing the PE for future roles such as assistant project manager, assistant superintendent, assistant estimator, or assistant safety superintendent.

Key Responsibilities:Organizational Skills
  • Establish and maintain a jobsite office.
  • Organize and oversee all jobsite documentation, including project directories, subcontractor lists, submittal logs, RFI logs, and correspondence.
  • Manage all onsite construction documents, including plans, specifications, shop drawings, and revisions.
  • Complete daily reports as directed.
  • Update as-built drawings as necessary.
Site Operations Skills
  • Implement appropriate site signage and postings.
  • Identify safety measures required prior to demolition.
  • Oversee the installation of building and site protection.
  • Assist with layout for partitions and ceilings.
  • Support site measurements for millwork, glass, and doors.
  • Participate in site inspections to uphold HITT's quality standards.
  • Manage specific construction tasks assigned by the superintendent.
  • Conduct basic material take-offs, place orders, and receive deliveries.
  • Interpret basic coordination drawings.
  • Assist the superintendent with survey and layout instruments.
  • Understand basic tests and reports (e.g., air balance, soils report, concrete test).
  • Facilitate subcontractor foremen's meetings as directed.
  • Recognize cost implications associated with construction tasks at various project stages.
Project Planning and Safety Skills
  • Update the project schedule periodically as directed.
  • Assist in the inspection process within the project's jurisdiction.
  • Support the implementation of HITT's corporate safety program on-site.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks as needed.
  • Complete all required safety documentation as directed.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required; military experience or a four-year degree in construction, engineering, or business preferred.
  • Prior experience on commercial job sites is strongly preferred.
  • A genuine passion for construction and the industry, with an eye for quality.
  • Ability to learn sector-specific software systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, ProCore, Adobe, BlueBeam, and JD Edwards.
  • Physical capability to walk or stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on professionalism.
  • Effective organizational and task management abilities.
  • Commitment to integrity and alignment with HITT's core values.

  • Flexibility to adapt to the evolving landscape of technology and methods.

In accordance with California's Labor Code Section 432.3, the base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $90,000. Compensation may vary in other locations. HITT Contracting offers a comprehensive benefits package, including performance-based bonuses, premium health care coverage, employer-matched 401(k), wellness reimbursement, paid holidays, and other voluntary benefits.
