Your Role and Responsibilities
- System Architecture definition is a crucial element in the development of IBM Z mainframes. The detailed definitions of new functions and instructions enable complete and correct implementations, thereby minimizing opportunities for miscommunication and inconsistent designs across subsystems. Members of the IBM Z System Architecture team are considered Subject Matter Experts in their respective areas of expertise. They work with hardware, firmware, and software technical leads to define new instructions and functions, document the detailed operation of these functions, and lead the design reviews to ensure complete implementation descriptions with no ambiguity.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- MS/PhD degree in Computer Eng, Computer Science or Computer Architecture and/or 2 years of relevant work experience with knowledge of operating system internals including device drivers and I/O interfaces and protocols, processor micro-architecture, cache and memory hierarchy, hypervisor design, and virtualization are among the highly desired skills.
- Requires good technical communications skills, including written communications, good negotiating skills, and the ability to “see the big picture” in terms of understanding the system level implications, such as system performance, of designs under consideration.
