**THE DEPARTMENT AND POSITION**
- The Recreation Department provides a full range of recreational and educational activities for youth and adults, facility rentals, community events, and diverse programs and services to enhance quality of life in El Cerrito.
- The Community Services Coordinator plans, organizes, directs and coordinates a variety of Community Services (Recreation) programs, which may include youth and adult contract classes, various recreation projects, summer camps and programs, rental of community facilities, digital and print marketing, and City-wide special events on a year-round basis for participants of all ages. All assignments require a knowledge of the provision of recreation and community services to a variety of age groups, the ability to organize and oversee the work of others, a strong customer-service orientation and the skill to relate to a variety of individuals, families and groups from various socio-economic backgrounds. This position receives general supervision from a Recreation Supervisor. The current vacancy exists in the Community Services Division.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (DUTIES)**:
- Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:_
**Essential Functions**:
- Plans, coordinates, and evaluates programs, classes, athletic activities, and special events including scheduling facilities and activities, preparing promotional materials, and recruiting contract instructors and/or part-time staff.
- Assists in the development, recommendation and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for Community Services programming which includes special events, marketing efforts, specialty summer camps, after-school enrichment classes, and general community classes focused on youth and families.
- Monitors the day-to-day operations of assigned programs, including making site visits, handling and resolving complaints not requiring the attention of a supervisor, and ensuring that programs and events have required materials and equipment.
- Researches, recommends, and helps implement new recreational programs with a focus on youth, teens, and families.
- Provides direction to part time staff, contract instructors, and volunteers including training, scheduling and evaluating
