Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead team to support NPI projects, sustaining engineering, technology development and lab facilities.
  • Leadership and oversight for quality engineering design, execution, and product safety for the portfolio of mechanical valve/actuator products and services.
  • Support Rockford site level Engineering initiatives and General site initiatives, by supporting the Site, Product Line and Quality Leadership, etc.
  • Provide overall leadership and administrative management for assigned personnel which includes: defining roles and responsibilities, conducting performance appraisals, participating in salary planning, promoting professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching, and counseling, among other leadership responsibilities.
  • Develop and manage resources including direct, contractors, fee-for-service etc, to staff projects with appropriate skillsets, across all regions.
  • Identify and execute Engineering Lean initiatives to continuously improve Engineering effectiveness and product cost.
  • Provide leadership with high integrity and oversight of processes protecting Intellectual Property, Export Controlled and Strategic Technology, protecting GE and 3rd party data.
  • Manage global resources in both design and test to support NPI and sustaining projects.
  • Build the technical abilities of the teams, including developing a pipeline of controlled title holders.  Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and technical direction to assigned personnel.
  • Drive the development and application of consistent design practices and sharing of design best practices.  This includes insuring rigorous process is followed in the execution of Lean, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action of product and process issues.
  • Ensure operational plan is met by establishing and monitoring budgets, programs and plans.
  • Assure technical excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources and consistency of methods across programs

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technology from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a Design or Test Engineering environment, with demonstrated experience in an organizational leadership role.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience leading engineering projects and/or teams.
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology.  GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics

  • Engineering Leadership experience with direct reports.
  • Advanced Technical Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace or Systems Engineering is preferred.
  • Demonstrated results while working in a matrix organization.​
  • Experience in manufacturing to facilitate ability to drive Design for Manufacturing in Design Engineering.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with FAA certification of components for Part 33/Part 25.
  • Technical expert in the aviation community through demonstrated technical accomplishments including holding patents, component design and systems design experience, and strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electro-mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving training experience (Six Sigma (DMAIC, DFSS, Lean) and TOPS8D).
  • Ability to document, plan, market, execute, control, close and manage programs, projects, orders, activities, and systems.
  • Ability to provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge / skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
