Muskegon Surgical Associates is recruiting for a full-time, 80 hours per pay period Collections Specialist. This position is an in office position . We are seeking a flexible, dependable, customer service-oriented individual who has the ability to work well under pressure. The purpose of the Collections Specialist is to collect outstanding accounts receivable dollars from patients. Candidate must possess excellent phone and computer skills.

Responsibilities include:

Review of open accounts for collection efforts using collection protocol. Makes outbound collection calls in a professional manner while keeping and improving customer relations. Collects patient payments in accordance with payment due dates. Identifies issues attributing to account delinquency and discusses billing with supervisor. Reviews and monitors assigned accounts and all applicable collection reports. Provides timely follow-up on payment arrangements. Mails correspondence to customers to encourage payment of delinquent accounts. Implements system for tracking accounts follow-up. Follows laws and regulations written by Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Complies with MSA Financial Policy, including approved financial arrangements. Creates and maintains a billing collection standard work documentation. Performs write off’s and adjustments when instructed by physician.

Coordinates garnishments/payment programs including the review of accounts through collaboration with outside collection agency, including garnishments or bankruptcy. Provides financial consultation to patients using outside agencies to pay for uncovered expenses related to the patient’s visit or surgery when applicable.

Process Assigned Hold Status Report and review visit description for rejection information. Investigate rejections and make necessary corrections.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 5 years of experience preferred in an medical office
Minimum 3 years of collections, medical billing, or accounts receivable experience required
Associate of Applied Science preferred
