The Positive Support Specialist works fully off-site, providing support to clients in their homes. This position is responsible for identifying tools and strategies that will benefit individuals during a crisis or behavioral escalation and is expected to regularly deescalate intense interactions between the client and others while maintaining professional relationships. This position will regularly meet one-on-one with assigned clients, complete data collection, and review and update clients' documentation. In this capacity, the PSS works with caregivers and clients to develop person-centered positive behavior support plans. 


Essential Responsibilities:


  • In compliance with program policies and procedures, provide behavioral consultation, training, and support services to current clients and others in the community via consulting agreements.
  • Complete, implement, collect, and record functional behavior assessments, positive behavior support plans, and person-centered positive support transition plans for clients on caseload.
  • Create and maintain systems that document external hours worked, report client attendance, record purchases, and document incidents and vulnerable adult reports for clients on caseload.


Qualifications:

  • Ability to independently travel within the Minneapolis and Saint Paul metropolitan area, with vehicle insurance that is equal to or greater than injury: $100,000, damage: $50,00.
  • A flexible schedule Monday - Friday. 
  • An associate degree in social services or two years of experience working with people who exhibit challenging behavior.
  • Ability to use electronic devices and internet-based applications.
  • A valid class ‘D’ driver’s license.
  • Ongoing commitment to strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol test following a conditional job offer and throughout the course of employment.


Essential Physical Functions:

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of this position.  The employee must be able to continually sit, stand, walk, and communicate throughout each day and be able to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, run, reach, and regularly push or pull up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
