Position Title: Montessori Classroom Support Specialist

Organization Overview:

Sunny Hollow Montessori is a reputable, AMI-accredited educational institution dedicated to fostering the growth of children from Toddler through Junior High levels.

Role Objective: The Montessori Classroom Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting classroom operations throughout the school day. This includes providing necessary breaks for staff and offering support to students in need. During lunch hours, the specialist will ensure classroom coverage, allowing educators to recharge. Additionally, they will aid in the transition to nap time and supervise children during the extended day program from 3:30 to 5:30.

Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Education Director.

Work Schedule: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

Contract Duration: 10 months, with potential for extension to 12 months.

Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Support During School Hours:

  • Provide coverage for classroom staff during breaks.
  • Assist during staff meetings.
  • Fill in for scheduled or unscheduled staff absences, which includes:
    • Supporting work cycles.
    • Facilitating daily transitions.
    • Assisting children with bathroom needs as required.
  • Oversee nap time and facilitate the transition to rest.

After School Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the elementary extended day program, including snack and recreational activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience working with children.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Completion of all mandatory annual training as per DHS and/or OSHA guidelines.

Preferred:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a Montessori environment.

Desired Skills and Attributes:

  • Demonstrates a strong sense of agency.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Possesses experience working with children.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Successfully passes a background check.
  • Shows a commitment to understanding and implementing a high-fidelity Montessori approach.
  • Values open and compassionate communication with colleagues.
  • Exhibits professionalism and seeks personal and professional growth.
  • First-generation college or graduate school attendee.
  • Individuals who have overcome significant educational or economic challenges are encouraged to apply.
  • Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
