JOB SUMMARY

The Parent Mentor Supervisor provides direct in-home services in the form of Parent Mentoring and Safety Monitoring that will serve as ancillary support to families. The purpose of this position is to achieve positive family support outcomes for at-risk youth by facilitating communication and collaboration between families, professionals, and community partners. The services provided are a support to parents with child welfare involvement which will engage them with essential tools and resources to maintain children safely at home. This staff will provide family preservation and stabilization services and work from a strength-based perspective to encourage and equip parents, providing hands on support through peer-to-peer coaching. This position oversees the Peer Mentor team, under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Family Support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Provide Parent Mentoring services that assist and support families in an informal manner including parenting education, finding childcare and employment, house cleaning and organizing, applying for public assistance, etc.
  • Provide Safety Monitoring services that fulfill specific actions outlined in a safety plan developed by the DCF Child Protective Investigator or Case Manager including any appropriate activities, actions or tasks that may be formal or informal for the purpose of managing and controlling danger threats.
  • Engage caregivers in activities or services that address supervision and monitoring, stress reduction, and behavior modification.
  • Assist with resolving immediate crisis and prompt problem solving within the home to support the success of a Safety Plan.
  • Connect caregivers to social support and resources within the community.
  • On-going communication with the DCF Child Protective Investigator or Case Manager and other service providers as needed.
  • Attend staffings when requested such as Multi-Disciplinary Staffings, Family Team Conferences, and Case Transfer Staffings.
  • Provide transportation for children and families as needed.
  • Provide day to day oversight and supervision as required to the Peer Mentor team.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities including agency in-service training, professional seminars, workshops, conferences, etc.
  • Ensure documentation for designated clients and services is completed in accordance with OMC policies and database procedures.
  • Assist Senior Director of Family Support with monthly goal tracking, outcomes, and other measures in place to increase performance and quality improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Parent Mentor(s) on the team, including all typical aspects such as performance, coaching, training.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning or at least four years of related experience is required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning is preferred.
  • Must have at least two years of experience working with the child welfare system.
  • Must have personally navigated through the child welfare system with successful outcomes.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous supervisor experience is preferred.

This job requires the ability to work in stressful conditions from time to time and remain focused for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (boxes, documents, and equipment).
