As an E&S Property Underwriter at Understory, you will be at the forefront of an innovative venture, wielding our proprietary hyperlocal climate risk engine to reshape the future of insurance. Your pivotal role in accurately assessing and pricing risk will contribute significantly to creating profitable insurance products.

In our dynamic, flexible, and collaborative environment, you will work alongside a team of experts in weather and climate, insurance, data science, technology, and R&D. Your strategic insights and decision-making skills will be crucial in supporting our clients' severe weather risk mitigation efforts.

Your primary role responsibilities will include:

  • Directing the assessment, underwriting, and pricing of complex commercial insurance risks
  • Guiding the review of insurance applications to gauge the degree of risk involved accurately
  • Steering the development of innovative underwriting strategies to achieve business growth and profitability
  • Collaborating closely with sales, customer service, and senior management teams to manage, retain, and grow our client base

You're exactly what we're looking for if you:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of E&S property underwriting experience, with a track record of managing large accounts (liability experience is a plus)
  • Have strong broker and carrier relationships
  • Demonstrate advanced analytical, decision-making, and leadership skills
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of insurance policies, regulations, and market trends
  • Possess outstanding communication and negotiation abilities
  • Are highly organized, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience in Dealer's Open Lot or Operational All Risks coverage is a strong plus
