Summary: The Adoption & Foster Team Lead is a full time position expected to work regular weekend, holiday and evening shifts. The Team Lead promotes high functioning operational procedures within the Adoption & Foster teams. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast paced, busy environment and finds working with people as enjoyable as with animals. This is a full time position with a salary range of $20.50 - $23.00 per hour.

Responsibilities include the following however other duties may be assigned:
  • Drive functional operations for both the Adoption & Foster teams streamlining processes and increasing collaboration between departments
  • Organize and assist with updating adoption and foster standard operating procedures
  • Train and coach assigned team members as well as volunteers supporting the adoption and foster departments
  • Facilitate adoption and foster placements including showing and matching animals with our community
  • Create department schedules to ensure shifts are covered and filling in where needed
  • Ensure the approach with potential adopters is an open adoptions model
  • Oversee team meetings and group projects
  • Collect and file all bite disclosures, ensure that disclosures are included in the pet’s file and a hold is placed in PetPoint
  • Follow national trends to create and nurture new creative programs to promote adoptions, fostering and engaging the community to keep pets with their families
  • Collaborate with other departments while promoting cross departmental communication
  • Administrative task include: restocking supportive materials; filing contracts; creating adoption folders; ordering tags and other supplies; drafting weekly volunteer adoption counselor schedules; data entry; and more
  • Ensure animals are moved and placed in their appropriate locations and stages efficiently including monitoring PetPoint “holds” for accuracy
  • Collect, analyze and provide data to supervisor on a monthly basis
  • Identify candidates for foster placement and coordinate with Foster Coordinator, Behavior & Medical teams
  • Determine foster pathways to best move animals to a positive outcome. This may include changing fosters, weekend shelter visits, etc.
  • Oversee that animals have proper website descriptions, appropriate kennel signage and that updates are made as needed. Ensure we are using all venues (social media/rescues/local business) to promote and gain exposure for adoption and foster placement
Supervisory Responsibilities: None - however this is a lead position which will interact with, train and engage adoptions and foster staff and volunteers as well as participate in ongoing educational opportunities for staff, volunteers and the community

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of professional hands-on work experience in an Animal Shelter or in an Animal Care environment
  • Knowledge of animal care, veterinary medicine and animal behavior
  • Excellent customer service and counselling skills in person and over the phone
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, inspire and instruct people
  • Ability to address conflict and seek resolutions
  • Creative forward thinker with a focus on problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain calm, composed and positive in stressful, sensitive or emergency situations
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, non-standard hours and overtime when needed
  • Adaptable to shifting needs, evolving priorities and urgent situations that arise
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; experience with shelter database helpful but not required
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information
  • Have a passion for the mission and a deep commitment to the goals of the organization 
Typical physical & mental demands: Requires frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, walking/standing, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other equipment or machinery. Will have exposure to injured and deceased animals, disinfectant solutions, and variable indoor and outdoor temperatures. May assist in animal restraint and deal with distressed or dangerous animals, and could be subject to bites and scratches. Requires manual dexterity to keep a strong animal on leash or operating a door while holding a strong animal on leash simultaneously. May be required to lift heavy items or animals (upwards of 50 lbs) and be otherwise physically active. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate with the public, volunteers, staff, and animals. Also requires flexibility and adaptability to work with frequent interruptions. Must be comfortable around dogs, cats, small companion animals, reptiles, amphibians and wildlife.

Vaccination requirement: Upon hire, employees will be required to receive rabies prophylaxis and tetanus vaccinations.
