Portland, United States The Northwest Regional Re-entry Center Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

The Northwest Regional Re-Entry Center (NWRRC) is a non-profit organization in the Criminal Justice field that began in 1964. We operate a 150-plus bed residential re-entry center and provide high-quality transitional services to those re-entering society from incarceration, for probation clients serving sanctions for violations of their supervised release, and for those under community restoration orders.

Our mission is to support, educate, and encourage our residents, while they do the work necessary toward successful transition from the criminal justice system back into their communities with improved life skills. We are committed to assuring effective supervision, providing structure, expecting accountability, and as a result protecting the community.

Position: We are seeking a highly motivated Resident Re-Entry Specialist to join our team. As a Resident Re-Entry Specialist, you will be part of our Security Department and will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our staff, guests, and our residents, who are in the process of transitioning back into society. You will play a critical role in ensuring that our residents are held accountable for their actions while also treating them with dignity and respect. This position is accountability and security-focused.

Sample of responsibilities:

  • Monitor resident activities and behavior to ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment
  • Conduct regular indoor and outdoor patrols, resident headcounts, and other searches of the facility, resident rooms and property, resident vehicles, resident phones, and residents themselves (pat downs)
  • Respond to emergencies and take appropriate action
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and activities in the facility log
  • Conduct observed urinalysis collection and breathalyzer testing for residents and for contract clients
  • Control and dispense resident medications
  • Monitor electronic monitoring reports (GPS) for residents on home confinement
  • Control and track all entry into and out of the facility
  • Track resident accountability while on an approved absence from the facility
  • First line of contact for all law enforcement, U.S. Marshals, U.S. Probation Officers, Bureau of Prisons personnel, and all other related agencies

Compensation: Starting at $26.06 hourly for a RRSI and $27.61 for a RRSII

  • We have a Resident Re-Entry I and II position. Relevant experience and/or education in this field of work will determine which position you qualify for, as well as your starting compensation. In addition, we provide a 3% pay differential for swing shift and a 5% pay differential for graveyard shift.

Shift: Staff must be available for any shift, all seven days of the week. New staff are assigned to a shift based on our current vacancy, and shift preference is based on seniority. Schedules are five 8-hour shifts on an assigned shift, with two consecutive days off. Day shift is 7am-3pm, swing is 3pm-11pm and graveyard is 11pm-7am.

Benefits: Employees working full-time will enjoy a competitive benefits package, including:

  • Paid time off: Security staff receive 24 days of PTO and vacation annually (that's 4.8 weeks). Staff also accrue 12 days of sick time annually.
  • Healthcare: We pay 100% of the medical, vision and dental premiums for our staff. We contribute 50% towards the premium cost for a spouse and/or dependents. Insurance begins the first of the month following date of hire. We also pay for life insurance, AD&D insurance and long term disability.
  • Retirement: We have an employer-funded Simplified Employee Pension plan. You are eligible after 1 year and we will contribute 7% on a quarterly basis.
  • Tuition assistance: We will pay up to 50% of your tuition cost for a degree or certificate in a related field of study. You are eligible after 6 months.
  • Fitness: We will pay you up to $50 monthly for exercising/going to the gym.
  • Free Meal: You can enjoy a free meal from our cafeteria and we have an amazing food services program.
  • Other benefits and perks

NWRRC provides EEO to all individuals regardless of their race, color, creed, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by state, federal, or local law.

Due to the nature of the population we work with and our federal and state contracts, all staff must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation and a pre-employment drug screening, which includes testing for the use of cannabis/thc.
