Role Overview:

We are seeking an After-School Program Director with a strong commitment to youth development to lead our Youth Development Centers (YDC) in Jamaica, Queens. This role is crucial for developing and implementing after-school systems and procedures, managing daily operations, and ensuring high levels of participant engagement and retention. The After-School Program Director will create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where teamwork, creativity, youth empowerment, and sportsmanship thrive.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Program Management: Implement effective after-school programming based on the Compass/SONYC DYCD model. Monitor budget and ensure grant objectives are achieved.
  • Operational Excellence: Develop and implement systems, processes, and tools in collaboration with the Multi-Site Director to support site-level operations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Multi-Site Director, Education Specialist, and school principal to ensure high-quality, comprehensive programming.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, hire, and train program staff. Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing support to staff.
  • Student Engagement: Maintain high levels of student participation and attendance through recruitment, retention strategies, and “student voice and choice” approaches.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with SACC, DOE, DOH, and DYCD requirements, standards, and regulations.
  • Travel: Occasionally travel to off-site meetings, trainings, and events.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Social Work or Education preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of supervisory and management experience in youth programs, including staff training and evaluation.
  • Skills: Proven ability to relate to young people as a positive role model. Experience in program outreach, recruitment, budgeting, and compliance with licensing procedures.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational and programming skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Salesforce; willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate discretion.
