MRS’ Office of Resettlement Services administers and supports a nationwide network of local resettlement agencies that provide federally funded support for newly arrived refugees. ORS’ Community Engagement and Sponsorship team supports the network by advising on best practices to engage the community as private and community sponsorship groups, individual volunteers, partners, and donors.

The Private Sponsorship Program Coordinator intern will work in close coordination with the Private Sponsor Program Manager to manage the USCCB Welcome Corps PSO Collaborative. The collaborative consists of USCCB staff members and a team of resettlement affiliates and dioceses (currently in Boston, Cleveland, Seattle) who mobilize, recruit and support sponsor groups engaging in the resettlement of refugees through Welcome Corps. This position entails direct virtual assistance to sponsor groups and strategic support in growing the number of USCCB’s collaborative partners across the country.

Continuing Responsibilities: (List from highest to lowest priority.)

•In close collaboration with the Program Manager, help conceptualize, shape and build the Collaborative

•Collaborate with multiple affiliates, dioceses, Welcome Corps staff and other national agencies in development, expansion, and management of USCCB’s PSO Collaborative.

•Work closely with the Welcome Circle Program Manager to identify and disseminate best practices, create resources, coordinate efforts, evaluate and report

•Co-develop resources to support PSO collaborative members, PSGs, and USCCB’s network of resettlement agencies receiving inquiries related to private sponsorship.

•Help identify opportunities, needs, challenges for the Collaborative members and PSGs

•Assist with tracking and reporting to ensure PSO collaborative partners and PSGs fulfill requirements, meet deadlines, and complete core resettlement services within 90 days

•Coordinate and communicate with the Community Sponsorship Hub (CSH) and Welcome Corps staff regarding sponsor group matching, refugee travel, program changes, and notification to CSH and/or relevant authorities of serious issues;

•Serve as a guide or coach to support groups in the DMV area (Washington DC metro, including Maryland and Virginia):

oHelp develop and implement a strategy for recruiting and training PSGs

oSupport and oversee sponsor groups throughout the 90-day sponsorship period, as well as provision of pre-arrival and preparation support;

oProvide post-arrival mentorship to sponsor groups to ensure the delivery of core sponsorship services;

oDevelop and implement measures to mitigate the risk of sponsorship breakdown and respond appropriately if breakdown occurs;

oPerform other duties necessary to successfully ensure that the goals of the Welcome Corps program are met.

Level:Second year graduate student

This internship pays $20.40 per hour.
