Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the power plant and all associated equipment in accordance with procedures, guidelines, and operating directives in effect. Oversees the wind site(s) and manages the technicians that perform multi-skilled operations and maintenance duties and responsibilities. Expert knowledge in performing operational duties, performing major component replacements, mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting and/or instrumentation tasks. Supervises and ensures that all technicians perform and adhere to all training requirements and schedules. Oversees the training and guides less experienced operations/maintenance personnel. Training program requirements are expected to be completed within the designated time frame.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed)

  • Adheres to, supports and complies with all company safety and environmental policies and practices. Ensures all employees, contractors and visitors conduct themselves safely and within company policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Complete required annual safety training.
  • Under the supervision of the General Manager, oversees activities at the site, including supervising and scheduling site personnel, turbine maintenance and repair, startups, shutdowns.
  • Plan and issue work schedules for site personnel to ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the wind turbines.
  • Supervisor, plan, perform or assist with major component replacements.
  • Takes immediate corrective action as directed in response to emergency situations to minimize safety hazards and to reduce damage or downtime to the site and its equipment.
  • Supervisor, plan, perform or assist with maintenance work including, but is not limited to; disassembly, repair, and assembly of small and medium size equipment; lubricating equipment; assisting with and/or performing electrical troubleshooting and maintenance; changing oil in equipment and troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Supervisor, plan, perform or assist with corrective, predictive, and preventive maintenance on electrical, mechanical, instrumentation systems.
  • Perform regular QC inspections, document discovery and discuss follow-up with site personnel.
  • Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.
  • Understand the chemical and oil characteristics in accordance with procedures at specified intervals.
  • Computes and reviews various logs and reports production, fault, temperatures levels and other information.
  • Maintains the shop area, shop equipment, tools, grounds and company vehicle in a clean and safe condition at all times.
  • Compiles records and reports and maintains a daily log.
  • Ability to lead a crew and establish performance goals and training.
  • Certified to operate various pieces of heavy equipment, such as forklifts, machine tools and electrical test equipment in the performance of operation and maintenance work.
  • Trains to improve personal skills related to the job and/or required advancement.
  • Regularly complete paperwork, including timecards, work orders and any other required documentation including hard copies and electronic.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability and willing to work holidays, weekends and call outs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE –

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred but not required.
  • Desired qualifications: 7+ years wind turbine maintenance experience.
  • In-depth knowledge in the area of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment, systems construction, capacities limitations and wind operating procedures.
  • In depth knowledge in the area of turbine design and equipment locations, turbine configurations, and normal range of parameters, temperatures, levels, etc, for common production levels.
  • Safe use of tools, plant safety rules, probable causes of equipment and systems malfunctions.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS –

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate orally with other employees including the proper use of a radio.
  • Ability to follow instructions and follow directions from team members.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS –

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS -

  • Ability to read and interpret work from simple and/or complex instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence.

REASONING ABILITY & DECISION-MAKING SKILLS -

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be organized, with an ability to stay focused on assigned tasks and possess an attention to detail.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS –

  • Possess a valid driver’s license for the state in which you are applying.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS -

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Regularly work in unprotected heights (six feet and below) and work from towers and work platforms up to 300 feet, with required safety equipment.
  • Lifting/lowering 25 to 40 lbs., lifting carrying up to 50 and up to 100 lbs. with assistance; pushing and pulling 45 to 60 lbs.; frequent reaching, squatting, crouching, standing, balance, manual dexterity, stooping, kneeling, walking and sitting.
  • Ability to climb up to 300 feet, unassisted, with required safety equipment, multiple times per day.
  • Ability to complete climb test and tower rescue training.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The posted compensation is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This salary range may also be modified in the future, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
