Job DescriptionJob Description

SECNY Federal Credit Union has an opening for a full-time Accounting Specialist. This position will develop and maintain reliable accounting information on income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and capital as a basis for management planning and decision making and for the fulfillment of financial reporting requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible or the daily accounting entries, reconciliation and balance of the Federal Reserve Accounts, including printing check returns, ATM postings, Visa payments and Savings Bonds.
  • Orders cash for branches and ATMs as requested.
  • Responsible for input and verification of wire transfers.
  • Monitors and reconciles fixed-asset and prepaid-asset management.
  • Responsible for the funding and reconciliation of investments.
  • Responsible for general ledger reconciliation, analysis of financial accounts, and preparation of journal entries.
  • Reviews general ledger reconciliations performed by other members of the accounting area monthly and follows-up on any reconciling items.
  • Closes monthly accounting records for the preparation of the monthly financial statements and assists with the preparation of financial reports as necessary.
  • Coordinates, manages and processes day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Develops and implements policies to streamline credit union accounting procedures.
  • Develops and maintains complex computer-based analyses and reports of credit union accounting records on a regular basis.
  • Involved in the Credit Union Asset Liability and Enterprise Risk management programs.
  • Keeps management informed regarding any unusual operational problems in the accounting area, recommends possible solutions and acts as the focal point in implementing these solutions.
  • Keeps informed of changes in accounting procedures, credit union policies and procedures, rate changes and other credit union issues.
  • Provides service and support to Member Services and assists in resolving member related issues, as necessary.
  • Responsible for the processing of backup withholdings monthly and yearly reporting.
  • Responsible for the completion of the annual NYS sales tax reporting.
  • Provide backup to the Finance Specialist.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school; and 2-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
