Clinic Front Desk

The Clinic Front Desk is responsible for gathering, verifying, and entry of patients’ demographic, insurance, and medical and social history information in an accurate and efficient manner. Individuals in this position obtain patient data and ensure forms are filled out properly, signed, and entered into a patient information database while maintaining an orderly and efficient flow of patients. This individual is often the initial contact for a patient visiting the practice and is responsible for assisting the patient and setting a positive tone for their visit. This individual will guide and direct patients to the appropriate location, in addition to ensuring necessary billing information and payment plans are in place after the patient moves through the office.

Responsibilities:
- Registers patients prior to service, ensuring up-to-date and accurate demographic and insurance information is recorded in the database.
- Collects and records patient’s medical, social, and family history and accurately enters information into the electronic chart.
- Advises and assists patients of their financial obligations regarding services.
- Advises and assists patients in completing required forms to obtain treatment or prior approval of office visit where applicable.
- Places a high priority on and maintains strict confidentiality in all situations.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains applicable professional affiliations and certifications as required.
- Attends and participates in required organizational meetings and committees as requested.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Certification/License Requirements:
Minimum high school diploma or GED required. At least one year of previous administrative or secretarial experience is required. Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with processing insurance preferred. Previous experience working in a medical office setting preferred.
Working conditions / Physical Demands:
Standard work environment is an office setting. Work requires sitting for long periods of time. Position requires viewing and typing on a computer for long periods. Occasionally bending, lifting, and reaching required dealing with files, paper, supplies, etc., including lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.) regularly. Vision must be correctable to 20/20. Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts and to interact directly with employees. Regularly interacts with the staff, physicians, and the public, which may involve dealing with angry or upset people.
