Status: Regular Temporary Full-Time Part-Time FLSA: Exempt Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

The Senior Grant Writer primarily oversees public (federal, state, and local) grant writing for Chief Seattle Club programs, projects, and services. In 2022, Chief Seattle Club secured 38 government grants/contracts totaling $41.7 million. Additionally, this position supervises the Grant Writer, whose primary responsibilities are the private grants. This position writes and manages applications for funding to support existing and future projects and supports program staff to negotiate contracts and report on grants. The Senior Grant Writer is a direct report to the Chief Community Development Officer (CCDO). As a housing/shelter developer, and particularly as a Permanent Supportive Housing provider, Chief Seattle Club’s public grants include a rapidly growing and evolving public grants, capital grants, and contracts portfolio.

Responsibilities

Supervision

· Supervise one FTE focused primarily on private funding, including foundations, corporations, tribes, and other non-governmental grants (though both positions will write public and private grants)

· Support the growth and development of the Grant Writer through training, coaching, and responsive skill development

· Provide back-up to the Grant Writer to accommodate deadlines

Grant Writing

· Research, evaluate, and track public & private funding opportunities in each program area. Analyze public & philanthropic policy and trends, including emerging issues impacting Chief Seattle Club services and support public funding strategy conversations.

· Track government policies and priorities to identify areas of alignment to Chief Seattle Club work.

· Compile, write and edit grant applications in concert with other agency staff and leadership.

· Work closely with program staff to garner input to write about various programs.

· Working with the CCDO, develop and manage back-up grant writing resources for the agency such as cross-training with other relevant program staff and developing related process documentation.

· Coordinate grant funding research to ensure comprehensive and strategic development of projects that serve program development.

· Research and collect data to support need statement, objectives, and evaluation criteria for proposals.

· Coordinate all applications with external partners and Chief Seattle Club staff.

· Assist program staff with grant follow-up.

Grants Management and Administration

· Oversee all grant writing activities to ensure the highest standards of quality and to meet all funder requirements.

· Work with the Finance and Administrative teams to ensure grant expenditures and invoices are on-track and following the funders’ guidelines

· Develop and maintain key project documents to support all aspects of grant writing workload, including monthly workload reports, grant calendar/tracking, etc.

· Prepare related communications for agency committees and Board of Directors; and maintain database on funding source contacts, activity and status.

· Develop and maintain alliances with government agencies, policymakers, and other City, County, state and local community organizations.

· Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

· Chief Seattle Club is a human services organization working in crisis response settings. It is imperative that all of our staff are accessible to program staff and understand the day-to-day experiences of our members and frontline staff. For this reason, we require all staff to work on-site full time.

· Experience working with American Indian, Alaskan Native, and First Nations people and organizations is strongly preferred.

· Bachelors' degree in related field preferred

· Three years experience in research, grant development, and proposal writing, preferably at a non-profit agency. This could include grant writing experience one might have had during program leadership.

· Demonstrated experience in planning and project management of large, complex projects.

· Demonstrated experience developing programs and writing grants for new funding opportunities related to human services, preferably housing, homelessness, and culturally responsive services.

· Ability to manage multiple, complex timelines for self and others (staff, partners, potential collaborators, etc).

· Knowledge of social justice issues and related social policy matters preferred.

· Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

· Excellent organizational, analytical, time management and project management skills.

· Experience working with budgeting, data management, research protocol and compliance requirements.

· Proficiency in MS Office products and web-based research tools.

· Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurialism, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
