POSITION SUMMARY:

The IV Technician/ Patient Care Coordinator is responsible for working under the direction of a pharmacist. The IV Technician/Patient Care Coordinator performs clerical and technical tasks such as coordinating care, communication, and processes between pharmacies, patients, prescribers, payors and other third parties in addition to processing, preparation, delivery, procurement, preparing IV solutions, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals within the pharmacy, under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Processes IV prescriptions and enters new compounds into the system.

· Maintains inventory and orders compounding ingredients as needed.

· Prepares IV solutions in the clean room under the supervision of a pharmacist.

· Assists the pharmacists with the daily operations of the home infusion program.

· Manages daily calls to patients regarding refills.

· Works with local oncology clinics and sets up shipments to various clinics.

· Works with billing when insurance verification is needed at the beginning of the calendar year and also when authorizations are about to expire.

· Enters patient and prescription data into the computer.

· Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to customer, computes charges, and enters data into computer.

· Assists customers, in person as well as by telephone, to meet their home care needs.

· Assists with the processing of IV orders.

· Records invoices and lot numbers into the tracking system.

· Refers clinical questions/problems to the pharmacists.

· Receives and stores incoming supplies, counts stock, and enters data in a computer to maintain inventory records, and removes outdated stock from shelves.

· Promotes the services and products of KPHC to the customer.

· Processes orders in CareTend, process Rx and delivery tickets.

· Insurance adjudication to pharmacy plan-Medicare D, Mainecare.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Maintains patient confidentiality and rights.

· Maintains professional appearance and conduct at all times.

· Participates in the Improvement Organization Performance program.

· Performs other work-related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

· High School graduate or equivalent.

· Computer literate, skilled in basic math, and detail oriented.

· Ability to follow directions.

· Ability to lift/move/transport/carry objects of varying size and weight.

· Must register as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Maine and maintain registration in good standing.

· Prior experience working with insurance companies helpful but not required.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None assigned.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Standard work environment with minimal noise levels. May include lifting moderately heavy boxes. May involve prolonged standing or walking.
