POSITION SUMMARY:

The IV Therapy Technician/Patient Care Specialist plays a crucial role under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist. This position involves executing clerical and technical responsibilities, including coordinating care, facilitating communication, and managing processes among pharmacies, patients, prescribers, payors, and other relevant parties. Additionally, the role encompasses the preparation, delivery, procurement, and dispensing of IV solutions and pharmaceuticals within the pharmacy setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process IV prescriptions and input new compounds into the system.
  • Maintain inventory levels and order compounding ingredients as necessary.
  • Prepare IV solutions in a sterile environment under pharmacist supervision.
  • Assist pharmacists with the daily operations of the home infusion program.
  • Manage patient communications regarding prescription refills.
  • Collaborate with local oncology clinics to coordinate shipments.
  • Work with billing departments for insurance verification and authorization processes.
  • Input patient and prescription information into the computer system.
  • Document medication and equipment dispensed to customers, calculate charges, and enter data into the system.
  • Provide assistance to customers both in-person and via telephone to address their home care needs.
  • Support the processing of IV orders.
  • Record invoices and lot numbers in the tracking system.
  • Refer clinical inquiries to pharmacists as needed.
  • Receive and store incoming supplies, manage stock counts, and maintain inventory records.
  • Promote the services and products offered by Kennebec Pharmacy & Home Care.
  • Process orders in CareTend, including Rx and delivery tickets.
  • Handle insurance adjudication for pharmacy plans.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure patient confidentiality and uphold patient rights.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in computer usage, basic mathematics, and detail-oriented tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Capability to lift, move, and transport objects of varying sizes and weights.
  • Must register as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Maine and maintain good standing.
  • Previous experience with insurance companies is beneficial but not mandatory.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None assigned.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Standard work environment with minimal noise levels. May involve lifting moderately heavy boxes and prolonged periods of standing or walking.
