POSITION SUMMARY:
The IV Solutions Technician/Patient Care Pharmacy Coordinator operates under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist. This role encompasses clerical and technical responsibilities, including the coordination of care, communication, and processes among pharmacies, patients, prescribers, payors, and other third parties. Additionally, the technician is involved in the processing, preparation, delivery, procurement, and dispensing of IV solutions and pharmaceuticals within the pharmacy, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Processes IV prescriptions and inputs new compounds into the system.
- Maintains inventory levels and orders compounding ingredients as necessary.
- Prepares IV solutions in a sterile environment under pharmacist supervision.
- Assists pharmacists with the daily operations of the home infusion program.
- Handles daily communications with patients regarding medication refills.
- Collaborates with local oncology clinics to arrange shipments.
- Coordinates with billing for insurance verification at the start of the calendar year and when authorizations are nearing expiration.
- Enters patient and prescription information into the computer system.
- Processes records of medications and equipment dispensed, calculates charges, and updates data in the system.
- Provides assistance to customers, both in person and via telephone, to address their home care needs.
- Supports the processing of IV orders.
- Records invoices and lot numbers in the tracking system.
- Refers clinical inquiries to pharmacists.
- Receives and organizes incoming supplies, maintains inventory records, and removes outdated stock.
- Promotes the services and products of Kennebec Pharmacy & Home Care to customers.
- Processes orders in CareTend, including Rx and delivery tickets.
- Handles insurance adjudication for pharmacy plans, including Medicare D and Mainecare.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures patient confidentiality and rights are upheld.
- Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Participates in the Performance Improvement Organization program.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient in computer use, with strong basic math skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Capable of lifting and transporting objects of various sizes and weights.
- Must register as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Maine and maintain good standing.
- Previous experience with insurance companies is beneficial but not mandatory.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None assigned.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Standard work environment with minimal noise levels. May involve lifting moderately heavy boxes and prolonged periods of standing or walking.
