As the PM Leader, you will work closely with the Management Team to lead the Project Management Department in managing and delivering high-end construction contracts. In this leadership role, you’ll be responsible for mentoring and coaching project managers to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness within their projects and teams. Your guidance is crucial in setting project goals, tracking progress, and ensuring successful outcomes.


The PM Leader establishes protocols and procedures for project management, implements software and technology standards, and oversees the department’s budget, inventory, and procurement of technology. Above all, the PM Leader is a key member of the MatPel's Management Team, providing leadership across the company and ensuring high-integrity work through collaboration, consensus-building, and informed decision-making that supports MatPel’s long-term success.



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors the performance of Projects and takes corrective action as needed.
  • Assesses the progress made by project managers to ensure that all are working toward achieving a common goal for the organization.
  • Provides consultation, gives suggestions, and provides advice for undertaking key changes in the planning of pivotal business strategies and decisions.
  • Inspires, develops and coaches employees and teams to meet or exceed company-wide performance standards.
  • Endeavors to optimally allocate resources to maximize achievement department-wide.
  • Responsible for planning, revenue, and managing the entire PM department.

 

In general, the SPM’s responsibilities are summarized into two major areas:

1)   Project controls and operations,

2)   Quality management,

 

Project Controls

  • Monitors all projects to ensure that they are proceeding successfully, in terms of established metrics (Meeting schedule, budget, quality, meeting owner expectations, meeting company budget/ profitability goals)
  • Establish a system of controls to identify deviation from expectations
  • Meet with clients semi-regularly to understand client needs, educate as needed
  • Meet with project team leaders
  • Identify ‘projects of significance’ that are of high visibility, complex or challenging, establish a closer monitoring
  • Develop a system of ‘heads up’ where project teams identify issues, unmet expectations and collaborate with company leaders
  • Develop & implement a ‘project peer review process’ to verify project status of meeting project goals
  • Identify project deviations, develop an action plan to ensure that issues are resolved

 

Procedures & Policies – Quality Management

  • Develop standardized procedures for project and field operations, update as needed
  • Implement established procedures with project teams


Training & Professional Development – Quality Management

Develop and implement companywide performance evaluation and training in coordination with General Manager.

  • Establish and implement a professional development program for all employees
  • Manage the estimating, scheduling, constructability review functions

 

Ability to:

Provide leadership. Think strategically and tactically. Develop and maintain positive relationships. Properly and efficiently manage project managers and other functions as assigned. Plan for and monitor the group’s contribution to the company.


 

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • A minimum of TEN years’ experience in high-end residential construction project management.
  • Ability to provide leadership to project management team, think strategically and tactically.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with team members, vendors, sub-contractors, industry partners, and clients.
  • Experience managing large high-end residential projects of at least $10M.
  • Understand and decipher legal contract language, code and technical construction technologies.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and MS Project, experience with Spectrum and ProCore a definite PLUS.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand technical documents.
  • Highly organized, energetic, focused, and detail-oriented.
  • Self-directed with a high level of initiative and a 'can do' attitude, dedicated to the success of the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Fast learner, with the ability to learn new software with ease.
  • Highly resourceful problem solver.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Impeccable and concise communication and presentation skills: verbal, written, and visual.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Poised and mature attitude, always remaining calm under pressure.
  • Commitment to delivering excellence in customer service.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to work in both office and construction environments.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for long periods of time and intermittently walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach while performing office duties.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; lift and/or move light weights.
  • Ability to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to use a telephone to communicate verbally and a keyboard to communicate through written means, to review information and enter/retrieve data.
  • Ability to see and read characters on a computer screen.
  • Ability to lift and carry cartons or packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, go up and down stairs and ladders, crouch, and crawl.
  • Exposure to heat and/or cold, and inclement weather.
  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
