Position Overview:

Collins Aerospace is in search of a seasoned Senior Manufacturing Engineer to enhance our team dedicated to the production of intricate fire detection systems. This role requires a proficient engineer with extensive knowledge and advanced technical skills in the manufacturing and assembly of metal components, as well as mechanical and electrical assemblies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement manufacturing equipment, fixtures, tooling, gaging, processes, or specifications necessary for production, including both new and revised processes.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield, cost, and scrap.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for manufacturing equipment and processes, employing lean principles including 5S Workplace Organization, Error Proofing, Total Productive Maintenance, and more.
  • Explore and introduce new technological advancements to support manufacturing processes. Conduct tests and measurements throughout production stages to maintain control over applicable variables.
  • Ensure compliance and manage change for manufacturing processes, which may encompass assembly, fabrication, painting, marking, machining, and welding.
  • Oversee new capital equipment projects, including writing capital funding requests and validation requirements, and collaborate with vendors and contractors.
  • Evaluate and validate manufacturability recommendations for existing and future products, advising on modifications to address quality and productivity constraints.
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to identify and mitigate ergonomic and safety concerns related to equipment and tools.
  • Act as a key member of the Material Review Board (MRB) to manage product/material non-conformance dispositions.
  • Lead PFMEA team reviews and updates for products.

Learning Opportunities:

  • Manage software programs for production equipment.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, and operational team members.
  • Identify and implement process and product enhancements in alignment with key performance indicators.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) or eligible for necessary export authorizations.
  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) is typically required, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with at least 3 years of experience, or 9 years of relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or other CAD software.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Project Leadership or Team Lead roles.
  • Demonstrated application of lean principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks systems.
  • Knowledge of GD&T Drawing techniques and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with Military/Aerospace procedures and regulations.
  • Familiarity with process automation and integration.
  • Understanding of detection systems and sensors.
  • Experience with SAP or Solumina.
