ABOUT PARK BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND VISIT GALVESTON

In 1963, the citizens of Galveston voted to create a specialized unit of government called the Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston. The organization is responsible for overseeing Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB) and Coastal Zone Management (CZM). The Park Board is funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) and beach user fees for the six parks that they manage. Tourism pays for tourism as no sales or property tax is collected by the Park Board. The nine-member board is comprised of volunteer residents with diverse business experience. Each is required to serve at least two years and must also serve on one of the Park Board's advisory committees.

HOW YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS A TOURISM PROMOTION SPECIALIST

As our Tourism Promotion Specialist, you personally help increase the value of traveling to Galveston Island. A creative problem solver, you provide tourism promotion support that drives park visitation and increases special events bookings. You collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to assist with creating visual content, including assets for website, social, and marketing purposes and assist with developing and executing the social media content plan. You capture real-time content at special events and at the parks, including photos and videos related to the parks' events, initiatives, programs and operations. Diligently, you help write, edit, and compile engaging content that promotes the parks we manage and any special events we're hosting.

You will work with the Marketing Team to develop and promote tourism campaigns and support special projects related to marketing plans and tourism. To test the effectiveness of your campaigns, you regularly analyze departmental statistics and other data. Using this information, you prepare reports to share with the team. You enjoy getting to flex your creativity and take pride in encouraging more people to visit our beautiful island


WHAT WE NEED FROM A TOURISM PROMOTION SPECIALIST

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or communications and two years related experience is preferred.
  • Two years of marketing experience at an agency and/or in-house marketing team is ideal.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Content and Project Management Systems.
  • Ability to use technology to capture content that can be used for marketing purposes.
  • Valid class C driver's license

2+ years of related experience would be preferred but isn't required for the right candidate. Can you manage your time well and juggle multiple tasks without letting any fall behind? Are you highly organized and detail-oriented? Do you have excellent verbal and written communication skills? Are you eager to learn more and develop your skills? WORK SCHEDULE FOR A TOURISM PROMOTION SPECIALIST

This marketing position is a full-time office-based position in Galveston. Work hours/days may vary depending on season needs and office demands. Some travel may be required for this role.
