Minimum Qualifications:
Registered Nurse with a minimum of 6 months to 2 years of clinical experience. Must hold and maintain a valid Texas nursing license or permit. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Job Overview:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist II is a proficient practitioner who demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the standards of professional nursing practice as outlined in the Texas Nurse Practice Act. This role requires a high level of expertise in the specialty area, functioning effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team. The practice is characterized by collaborative decision-making and a focus on patient-centered care. The nurse is expected to manage routine and emergency situations typical of the assigned specialty population and serve as a resource for less experienced nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate care plans for assigned patients.
- Identify nursing diagnoses and patient care requirements.
- Create and adjust individualized care plans as necessary.
- Execute physician orders for all assigned patients.
- Administer medications and treatments while providing culturally competent nursing care in alignment with UTMB's policies and standards.
- Perform routine technical procedures and skills relevant to the assigned specialty area.
- Provide basic education and healthcare instruction to patients and families based on their identified learning needs.
- Recognize the potential influence of family dynamics on patient care.
- Utilize evidence-based resources for patient and family education.
- Employ the Teach-Back method to assess the effectiveness of education and modify strategies as needed.
- Plan, coordinate, and prioritize patient care activities according to skill level and complexity.
- Ensure safety and continuity of care through effective communication and hand-off processes.
- Exhibit strong time management skills.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and seek guidance when necessary.
- Demonstrate proficient use of technology in patient care delivery.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in Epic software.
Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule:
To be determined based on unit needs, with most shifts being 12 hours, either 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
